I headed straight for Lauren's new office, the one that smelt like fresh paint and ambition. Her name was on the door now, 'Lauren Radcliff Astor', in shiny, bold letters that seemed too formal for the laid-back feel of the resort.
But, at the same time, it seemed entirely fitting. And, I was so damn proud of her. She’d come a long way on her own and it was only right she be recognized for it.
Sure, people might cry that she’d had it handed to her. But they only had to meet Lauren and see her in action to realize how ridiculous that was. Michael Astor was many things. But, he was not the type of man who would put someone in charge just because of their relationship.
I knocked twice on the closed door but got no answer. I tried the handle and it was unlocked, so I opened it and peered in.
Lauren wasn’t there. Maybe she had a meeting I didn’t know about.
