Denied For Installments

Aiden furrowed his brows.

He did not quite understand, but he heard the nurse loud and clear.

"Why?"

The vampire nurse remained indifferent.

"You simply are not qualified," she replied nonchalantly, not intending to provide Aiden more information.

"That is not the answer I am looking for. Please, I must know why," Aiden insisted.

The vampire nurse gave Aiden an apathetic stare.

Vampires were very practical creatures. They disliked going on and on about a certain topic and preferred a quick and easy solution to a problem.

In ancient times, this meant killing the source of the problem. In modern times, they relied on a more humane approach.

She tilted her head to the side and a vampire security guard quickly approached.

"Is something the matter?" the security guard asked with the same expressionless face. His burly appearance would scare even fellow vampires to some degree, but Aiden did not flinch.

"There is some misunderstanding," Aiden tried to explain. "The nurse told me that..."

"There is no misunderstanding," the nurse interrupted Aiden. "You simply are not qualified. Would you like to pay in full?"

"I cannot," Aiden said in exasperation.

If he had that much money in his bank account, he would have paid right away without hesitation!

Seeing a security guard approach his grandson, Grandma Thompson became concerned.

She rose from the couch in the waiting room and went toward the reception. His grandson was in a heated argument with the nurse and the security guard.

Or better said, Aiden was doing all the talking while the other two could not wait to get rid of him.

Grandma Thompson did not know what was wrong. She merely caught Aiden's last words.

"Please," the young man begged. "I only have enough money to pay in installments."

"Aiden," Grandma Thompson pulled at her grandson's shoulder. "What is happening? If there is something wrong, let's talk it out."

"There is nothing wrong. They keep saying that I am not qualified but they will not give me any reason."

The security guard inched closer to Aiden.

"Sir, if you do not have enough money to pay, please exit the premises."

Aiden glared at the security guard. He wanted to argue more, but his grandmother quietly pulled at his elbow.

"Come on, Aiden. Let's talk over there."

Aiden had no choice but to follow his grandmother to the waiting area.

"Grandma, I have the money," Aiden insisted. "It's just that they refused to let me pay in installments. I don't understand."

White Chapel was usually a quiet place. Aiden and his grandmother quickly drew attention from onlookers. Most of them were rich people who turned up their noses in disgust when they saw poor people. Poor human beings were such a disgrace, they thought mercilessly. The security guard should just kick them out.

When Angela Kendall walked into the White Chapel hospital that morning, what she saw caused her to frown. The human beings in the waiting area were all staring at someone or some people who were huddled in a corner.

Nevertheless, she was not one to butt in other people's business, so she went straight to the reception table to talk to the nurse in charge.

"I am here to pick up Mr. Ryan Caldwell," Angela said.

The nurse gave her a curt but polite smile. She pressed on a quick dial button on the phone and spoke, "Ms. Evans, Ms. Kendall has arrived."

Harriet Evans was Ryan's secretary. She answered just seconds later.

"Hi Angela, Mr. Caldwell is almost ready. He will come down in fifteen minutes."

"Okay," Angela spoke into the phone.

The vampire put on her sunglasses and shook her long auburn hair off her shoulder. Two figures emerged from the waiting area. Angela lifted her gaze.

One of the two people looked awfully familiar. She had been thinking about the young man's specific features for a while now, so she could not be wrong.

Her eyes moved from the young man to the elderly woman whose hand he was holding. So he needed money to treat the elderly woman. Poor boy.

"What happened to the two people?" Angela heard herself asking the nurse.

The nurse looked up at Angela and stared at the two people who were leaving the hospital.

"They do not have enough money for the treatment."

Nick had told her that it was the young man's first time selling blood. Could it be that he was short of money?

Angela quickly stalked after Aiden and his grandmother.

"Excuse me."
