Agonizing change

Despite wanting to sleep in his new nest for the rest of the day and night Alex held off on this since tonight was the full moon he had been waiting for. The ingredients for the [enhanced life span] trait ritual had been gathered for quite a while now but he needed to fulfil a few other conditions before he could undergo the ritual. Now that those things were taken care of Alex knew that he needed to vanish from sight and get to the location he chose to under go the ritual without anyone being the wiser to it.

This wasn't that hard to achieve since Alex was naturally camouflaged at night to begin with so he simply just had to put in a little extra work to stay unseen. Collecting the ingredients for the ritual Alex carefully snuck out of his new nest and out the upper gate of astera. A short walk later and Alex was far enough away from the town to take off into the sky without alerting anyone since besides the wind he was damn near impossible to see on a cloudless night like this one. The location Alex had chosen for his ritual was at the top of a stone pillar halfway to the wildspire waste.

It was isolated to the extreme and just tall enough that no predators were likely to get the drop on him without literally falling out of the sky. Alex was understandably nervous when he arrived at the spot since no matter how you looked at it the ritual had VERY extreme requirements to complete that were likely to be horribly painful. He was right of course as pulling his chest open was an agonizing process that took him close to an hour thanks to his stupidly sturdy body fighting against the process.

Once his heart was exposed Alex wasted no time at all grabbing the mixture and dumping it directly onto his heart with his teeth gritted expecting even more pain. The pain never came however so Alex closed his chest with a sigh of relief before downing a max potion to relax and kickstart his regeneration. The moment the flesh fused shut however Alex screamed as agony began to radiate from his chest with every beat of his heart like all of his nerves were firing at the same time. The pain was simply to much so to protect his mind he directly passed out while writhing on the ground.

Hours came and went and only when the first rays of sunlight began to peak over the horizon did Alex awaken from his pain induced coma. The first thing he saw was obviously the notification from the system telling him that he had unlocked the trait. The second thing he saw however cleared his foggy mind from the shock of it as his birth mark on his forehead now had a small pebble that glittered in a soft red light.

'A gem!' Alex thought in surprise as he stared at the thing with his reptilian eyes that let him see his entire head. Nothing about the ritual made Alex think he would spontaneously develop a gem however what this unexpected development meant was very clear. somehow the ritual pushed Alex's body to the point it could now be considered high rank since it was only at that point that gems formed. Honestly speaking Alex felt incredible when he stretched to stand up as the powerful muscles under his skin rippled and tensed. He felt light as a feather but he knew this was likely just because he had suddenly shot forward in strength.

Besides the unlocking of the [enhanced life force] trait Alex had several other traits level up at least twice. These traits were [swimming muscles] , [additional limbs: wings] , [tempered bones] , [crushing muscles] , [dense muscles] and [weaponized tail]. Each one reached levels three , six , three , three , three and two respectively in that order. This was a frankly qualitative transformation in terms of physical power and Alex guessed he likely sat roughly on the same level as low rank rathalos as a result. 'This required testing of course but that can wait until I get a handle on this improved body of mine.' Alex thought as he crushed a stone in his claws effortlessly.
