Once the meat was good and cookable the chef took them out of the marinade and set them on the flat top to cook while barking (meowing) out orders to his subordinates to gather various vegetables and spices. Alex watched as onions , garlic , tomatoes , honey ,lemons , turmeric , cumin and basil were gathered and thrown into a huge grinder and mashed and mixed into a thick paste that was then thinned out with a little vegetable stock from nearby before being basted onto the meat. After flipping and basting the meat several times to ensure each side had a generous amount of flavor the chef set the meat to the side to rest.

While Alex was waiting for his food a young woman with short brown spikey hair sat down next to him with a greedy look at the meat cooking. Alex didn't recognize the woman as someone from astera but he did know exactly who she was , the handler. The only reason he wasn't going to go off on her about trying to steal his food was because he knew it was in her nature as a super glutton. Instead he merely retrieved his writing supplies from his pouch and told her the meat was his in a note.

"You don't mind sharing right? I'm just so hungry from the long trip over the sea you would surely not deny me such a huge favor right?" She asked with the biggest puppy dog eyes alex had ever seen (A/N: it was super effective. lol). "Just this once" Alex gave in immediately. The chef snickered at how pathetic Alex was to cave in so easily but alex just gave him a "don't make me hurt you" warning glare that he just smirked at. 'Tch , nobody respects me at all" Alex mentally complained.

The food was soon done and the chef split the haul into three servings due to the agreement he and Alex had were he got half of any interesting dishes he cooked in exchange for the meal being free. The three of them tucked into the meal and Alex was amazed to see that he generated three different traits from the meal with one of them drawing his attention immediately , [Variant pyrosis]. This trait literally meant Alex could generate flame from his body even if it wasn't a very powerful flame it was still fire.

The word variant at the start of the trait however likely referred to the unlocking requirements that were rather unique as it was different from the other traits. Up until now the requirement to unlock a trait has always been very specific but this trait had different outcomes based on what he chose to do. The exact wording of the requirement was {consume whatever amount of fire attribute materials you deem worthy of awakening this trait. HINT: The higher the quality and the more consumed the better the result}.Technically Alex could finish his meal and call that enough and get whatever the system determined that was worth.

He knew this would be a horrible mistake however as while that would give him the trait it would probably be the worse version possible. Instead Alex decided immediately to hold off on unlocking this trait until he consumed a large amount of fire attribute materials for it , as a bonus however Alex now knew what to do with the gem he got. Once he was done with his meal Alex left the canteen through the nearby city exit and took to the sky. It was very early in the morning as the sun had only just started to rise when he had warned the city of zorah's approach.

While high in the air Alex reached into his pouch and removed the glowing red gem before tossing it directly into his mouth without hesitation. "CRUNCH CRUNCH CRUNCH" three chews later and alex swallowed the now broken up gem in order to use it as fuel for the trait. Alex's [fire resistance] immediately rose two levels while he felt a sort of instinctual recognition that the trait he would unlock had increased in quality several fold just from that one gem showing how high quality it was.
