Traits galore

Alex woke up in a fine mood the next day after leveling up all of those traits as he started shedding his scales for a new set in the middle of the night. The new scales looked the same except in truth they were ever so slightly denser which increased the defenses provided by them considerably. Roya was thrilled to collect the shed scales for testing since it would finally allow her to make so progress on her study of him. She knew that a monsters scales held a lot of information about them so studying them was the same as studying Alex for her.

This gave Alex the entire day to himself since she said she would be busy with that instead of bothering him. 'At least she is self-conscious of how irritating her constant stalking is" Alex thought with a huff. 'I think today i'll go and sample some seafood' he decided as he strolled through astera casually. The foreman waved at Alex when he got to the dock and Alex waved back before sliding into the water below. The reef in the distance was just as lively as always with various fish swimming about amongst the vibrant and colorful coral.

Alex leisurely swam forward no longer needing to worry about the sharks that could also be seen nearby since he was large enough to not be seen as prey by the larger ones. The first creature to fall prey to Alex however was in fact a type of shark , a small lemon shark to be specific. This gave Alex the [thick skin] trait that needed him to eat an entire shark to unlock which was easy enough since he just so happened to have a nearly complete corpse of a lemon shark.

Alex's next victim was a lionfish that he casually speared with his tail and carefully snapped off the venomous spines of before eating and earning the [venomous claws] trait that required him to eat fifty of the fish it came from. Alex wasn't surprised to see that the trait earned was a modified version of the one that the fish itself had since he didn't actually have any spines for the original trait to work with causing the system to modify it slightly. Sure if Alex wanted to he could go out of his way to try and get that trait but since he didn't need it for any reason he simply didn't.

The final victim was a serious pain for Alex to catch as it tended to hole up deep in a crevasse every time he found one , this is to say the creature in question was an octopus. Alex was rewarded for his effort however as he got the [enhanced heart] trait which he dearly hoped worked the way thought. Alex knew that the heart of an animal was the core of it's entire body in most cases so having that organ be enhanced beyond normal levels meant an almost qualitative improvement to the entire body.

The requirement to unlock this trait however proved this thought process correct as he needed to eat two hundred of the creatures he got the trait from to unlock it. This was a pattern he noticed about the traits he got , the more potent the trait the higher the cost to unlock and level up. It was for this reason Alex still hadn't leveled up the [weaponized tail] trait despite the only requirement being it's use to hunt. In order to level up this trait he needed to hunt two thousand things with it showing just how valuable it was.

After spending the next four hours terrorizing the lionfish and octopi populations Alex nabbed him a small bull shark that got greedy and swam back to astera. The foreman could only smile and shake his head when he saw Alex dragging the shark almost as big as he was onto the dock and up towards the canteen. All in all it was a good day for Alex as he got three new traits generated and even got one of them unlocked making his day very profitable indeed.
