Chapter 19. Sieg

I Will Eventually Embark on the Path of No Return Called a Hero [Arc2] - 19. Sieg

"According to the information…"

Darnic set down the materials in his hand and looked at Vlad III on the throne.

"Currently, Red Saber is heading towards our Assassin's location."

"Oh? How powerful is Red Saber?" Vlad III tapped the armrest of the throne lightly.

"While we were intercepting Red Berserker, the Red Saber and their team infiltrated Trifas. However, after destroying some defensive golems, they were taken away by a woman, and we couldn't identify their Noble Phantasm," Darnic frowned. The thought of a Saber-class Servant infiltrating Trifas while their attention was on Spartacus made his scalp tingle.

"A woman? Interesting," Vlad III nodded. "Have we contacted Assassin's Master yet?"

"I told you from the start that hiring that third-rate guy was a bad idea," Gordes complained. "Now the situation he's caused is almost out of control."

Caules blinked.

Fiore sighed and handed a newspaper to Caules. "You should read the paper more often."

Caules scratched his face awkwardly as he took the newspaper. When he opened it, a huge headline caught his eye.

Jack the Ripper Reappears.

"I remember…" Caules' mouth fell open.

"Our Assassin is Jack the Ripper," Darnic sighed. "It's clear that they've completely lost control. All the magi in that city have been killed."

"If this disturbance is that big, it will definitely attract the Ruler," Caules closed the newspaper.

"The Ruler has already gone, and with Red Saber," Darnic rubbed his temples. "The Ruler mentioned before that as long as the secrecy is maintained, they wouldn't interfere. But now, Assassin's actions have gone too far. The Ruler will certainly intervene. If a conflict arises, they might deal with Assassin. Even if they don't, Red Saber won't miss this opportunity. This could be why Ruler and Red Saber are working together."

"Archer, what do you think?" Vlad III looked at Chiron, who stood behind Fiore.

"He will probably defeat Assassin without hesitation," Chiron scratched his face. "If we don't want to lose a Servant, we'd better go and support Assassin."

"Alright, then Archer, you go," Vlad III nodded. "The Master's safety is secondary. Just bring back Assassin. If you encounter Red Saber, defeat them if you can but avoid prolonged battles. Your main objective is to retrieve Assassin."

In Vlad III's eyes, Assassin's Master had lost all value, but losing a Servant over such a trivial matter was unacceptable.

"Understood."

Fiore patted her face. If she remembered correctly, Red Saber's Master was a seasoned necromancer. While she might have an absolute advantage in magical talent, in terms of combat experience, she probably couldn't even touch Sisigou's heels.

"Sister, I'll go too," Caules quickly said.

"No need, just stay here," Fiore shook her head.

"I'll protect your sister," Chiron smiled at Caules, then pushed Fiore out of the throne room.

"Ugh…" Frankenstein tugged at Caules' sleeve and pouted.

She was upset…

But Caules had no idea why.

"Caules," Vlad III tilted his head, observing Caules and Frankenstein for a while before speaking. "You should go too."

"Huh? Really?" Caules' eyes widened.

"You and Berserker tried to stop the conflict between us and the Ruler before," Vlad III raised his chin approvingly. "With Saber and Caster's golem defenses here, we'll be fine. If you want to go, then go."

"Thank you! I'll go pack right away," Caules bowed excitedly to Vlad III, then hurried out of the throne room with a still fuming but repressed Frankenstein.

"King, I don't understand," Darnic frowned.

"It's fine. If he wants to go, let him go," Gordes crossed his arms nonchalantly. "Why not send Rider too? Maybe they can take out Red Saber."

Darnic raised an eyebrow. Though Gordes's reasoning made sense, he couldn't shake the feeling that Gordes was hiding something.

Noticing Darnic's gaze, Gordes shifted his eyes away guiltily.

Trying to weaken others using Red Saber's power? Such a transparent man, Darnic thought with disdain.

"I do not underestimate any of my subjects," Vlad III lightly tapped the armrest with his fingers. "And I can tell that even if we didn't let him go, that man would sneak out anyway. Better to let him go openly."

"The King is right," Darnic sighed. He still didn't have high hopes for Caules.

Back in his room, Gordes locked the door, activated a soundproof barrier, and pursed his lips in dissatisfaction.

"Ugh, I was hoping to send out more Servants."

"What's wrong?" The homunculus peeked out of the wardrobe cautiously.

"Nothing, really. Just remember, if you hear me call you… emmm…" Gordes stroked his chin. "Come to think of it, I should give you a name."

"Hmm?" The homunculus tilted his head.

"Saber, name him," Gordes pulled out a can of nutrient fluid from his clothes and handed it to the homunculus. "This will have to do for now. With Caster watching over everything, we can't fully adjust your body until the Holy Grail War is over."

"Thank you," the homunculus struggled to open the can.

"Ugh, you're so useless," Gordes frowned and bent down to help open the can.

"Master, I'm not good at this kind of thing," Siegfried smiled wryly.

"Sieg…" the homunculus suggested softly.

"Huh? That's too plain," Gordes pouted.

"I want to replace Saber and protect you after the Holy Grail War," the homunculus stammered but looked at Gordes with determination. "Even though I'm not as strong as Saber…"

Gordes's mouth fell open.

"Then… I'm counting on you," Siegfried smiled and extended his hand to Sieg.

"Yes, I swear on my life," though weak, Sieg firmly grasped Siegfried's hand.

"Hey! Who's protecting who here? Get your priorities straight!"
