Chapter 1War

<p><br/><br/>"There it is." The older man's voice was rough, each word trailing off as he coughed. He stood beside a young man with short, silver hair, who was staring up in awe.<br/><br/>"Wow," the young man muttered, his eyes widening.<br/><br/>Before them stood an enormous gate, towering at the entrance to a mountain range. This was the Firebird Base, a symbol of strength, dominance, and history. Seeing its majesty, Frank couldn't help but let out a soft sigh, his thoughts drifting back to a conversation he'd had with his father.<br/><br/>---<br/><br/>Years ago, Frank sat next to his father, as they often did, the warmth of the hearth contrasting the cold outside. His father's deep voice suddenly broke the silence.<br/><br/>"What does it mean to engage in battle?"<br/><br/>Frank blinked, unsure of how to respond, but his father didn't wait for an answer. His voice became more solemn as he continued, his words carrying weight.<br/><br/>"For example, the people of Northern Wei have been locked in war for decades. They've been raided, lost land, seen their people slaughtered, their treasures stolen. But everything changed when the exiled second prince returned. He led his forces against hordes of soldiers, sparking what came to be known as the Heaven-Slaying War. Generals deserted the capital and joined his cause, and thus the Kingdom of Northern Wei was born, forged in blood and defiance."<br/><br/>His father paused, his eyes hardening.<br/><br/>"War is not just bloodshed, son. It is survival. One day, you'll face your own battles—physical, spiritual, and emotional. And you must understand what it means to fight."<br/><br/>He coughed again, his eyes softening. "You may not understand now, but on your fifteenth birthday, when you face your first tribulation, perhaps then you will begin to grasp what it means."<br/><br/>---<br/><br/>Frank snapped back to the present, his gaze still fixed on the gate. "So this is what he meant," he murmured to himself.<br/><br/>He'd learned that every youth, once they reached the age of fifteen, had to test their potential. The Firebird Base was where they were judged—trained, tested, and either welcomed into the military or sent home.<br/><br/>"What are you waiting for? Get tested," the older man said, his voice now firm.<br/><br/>Frank hesitated, the weight of his father's words still heavy on his shoulders.<br/><br/>"Don't worry," the man added, seeing the look on his face. "You'll pass."<br/><br/>"I don't really want to," Frank muttered under his breath.<br/><br/>The older man raised an eyebrow but didn't argue. Instead, he crouched down, looking Frank in the eyes. "You need to understand something, son. The world is ruled by strength. If you want to live a peaceful life, you need power. That's how it works—whether you like it or not."<br/><br/>Frank stared at the ground, thinking.<br/><br/>"But," the older man added, his voice softer, "if you fail, you come back home. I'll still be there for you."<br/><br/>A faint smile touched Frank's lips. His father was usually a strict man, never one to indulge weakness. But today, there was something different in his tone—a recognition of the weight of the path ahead.<br/><br/>With a nod, Frank took a deep breath and started jogging toward the base. The older man watched him for a moment before turning away. "You'll pass," he muttered, a small smirk playing on his lips. "You're my son, after all."<br/><br/>---<br/><br/>"Get out of the way!" <br/><br/>As Frank jogged toward the base, a loud voice erupted from behind him. Before he could react, a shadow shot past, brushing against him. A young boy, wild-eyed and flailing, was running in panic. Before long, a white-robed man caught up to him, grabbing him by the collar.<br/><br/>"Let go! I don't want to join the army!" the boy wailed. "Help! I'm being kidnapped!"<br/><br/>The white-robed man sighed heavily. "Young Master, stop this nonsense."<br/><br/>"I won't! Help! Someone save me from this pervert!"<br/><br/>The white-robed man's face flushed red with embarrassment. "I'm just following orders, Young Master. While we're in this region, you must follow the rules."<br/><br/>The boy flailed even harder. "I don't care about rules! I don't want to be in this backwater place! If you get me out of here, I'll give you all of my brother's wine stash. Deal?"<br/><br/>Ignoring the boy's bribe, the white-robed man hauled him off toward the barracks. The boy turned to Frank, desperation in his voice. "Hey, you! You in the black! Help me, and I'll give you a million gold coins! No, a billion!"<br/><br/>Frank blinked, stunned by the absurd offer. Shrugging, he walked past the scene, heading into the barracks.<br/><br/>---<br/><br/>Inside the barracks, the atmosphere buzzed with tension. Frank noticed a crowd of recruits lined up in various sections. Each section had a leader, some ordinary-looking, others exuding raw power. Frank joined the line for the infantry unit, the most straightforward path.<br/><br/>Ahead of him, a tall, middle-aged man with a red robe stood by, silently observing the recruits. When Frank reached him, the man spoke.<br/><br/>"Hit me."<br/><br/>Frank's eyes widened in surprise, but seeing no other choice, he punched the man. His hand throbbed instantly. It felt like he had struck solid stone.<br/><br/>The man didn't flinch. Instead, he took Frank's hand, examining it carefully. His eyes lit up with interest.<br/><br/>"A ranked physique..." he muttered under his breath before smiling widely. "You're a promising young man."<br/><br/>"Thank you, sir," Frank said, still rubbing his sore knuckles. He hurried to the next stage of the process, only to be overtaken by a familiar blur.<br/><br/>"Not again," Frank groaned, watching the boy from earlier dart past him at an impossible speed.<br/><br/>---<br/><br/>Later that night, Frank entered his shared quarters. To his complete lack of surprise, the loud boy was already there, along with two other recruits. The boy grinned widely at Frank.<br/><br/>"Hey! My name's Jack, but everyone calls me All Trades, 'cause I'm a Jack of all trades!" he laughed loudly at his own joke, though no one else seemed amused.<br/><br/>Frank rolled his eyes, trying to ignore him. <br/><br/>Jack looked around the room expectantly. "Come on, introduce yourselves! We gotta bond, right?"<br/><br/>The first boy spoke quietly. "Call me Joey."<br/><br/>The other boy followed. "Jake."<br/><br/>Jack gasped dramatically. "What? Joey and Jake? No way! Frank, you gotta change your name so we can all be J's!"<br/><br/>Frank stared at him, deadpan. "Yeah, that's not happening."<br/><br/>Jack just chuckled. "No worries, little bro. I'll take you under my wing anyway."<br/><br/>Frank sighed, thinking, *This is going to be a long night.*<br/><br/></p>

Seven Nation Army

Fourteen years of war nearly destroyed the world. Seven years of peace have barely held it together. The Seven Nation Army, forged from the ashes of World War III, stopped the bloodshed and vowed to protect the fragile balance. But peace has a price—and not everyone is willing to pay it. A shadow looms over the fractured world. The New World Order, a ruthless organization born of chaos, plots to tear apart the fragile ceasefire. Their vision? Burn the old world to the ground and rebuild it on their terms. At the forefront of this conflict, Bravo Squad stands as humanity's shield. Led by Captain Sohel Choudhury, callsign "Ghost," this elite unit faces a daunting task: unravel the NWO's plans before the world is plunged into World War IV. But trust is scarce, alliances are fickle, and the battlefield is no longer confined to nations—it’s everywhere. Victory isn’t guaranteed, but failure means the end of everything. — “If taking one life can save a thousand, we have to pull the trigger. If that one life is at the end of your barrel, and you won't be able to take the shot, leave this room right now. Because if you don't take the shot, your enemy will. And he won't hesitate. I assembled you here to win a war, not to turn all of you into cannon fodder.” Sohel took a deep breath and looked out over his squad. “Now, let me ask again, does anybody want to leave? Does anyone here think that he'd not be able to pull the trigger?” The room buzzed with one synchronized sound, “No, sir.”

The American Dream: A Modern Officer Sent to the Revolutionary War

Due to a mysterious transcendent being, United States Marine Corps First Lieutenant Samuel Kim from 2016 is thrown back in time to the year 1775. To make matters worse, he wakes up near Bunker Hill, mere hours before the famed Battle of Bunker Hill begins. Realizing the unique situation he finds himself in, the lieutenant takes the opportunity to change the fate of the battle and ensure an overwhelming American victory. Guided by his "patronizing" "God" and the American revolutionaries, Lieutenant Kim embarks on a journey to help America gain its independence and to ensure the nation upholds its "most promising" ideals from the very beginning. Author's Warning: The story is very rough in the first few chapters (and as some readers pointed out, some parts are laughable, such as "American idealism"). However, the pace and quality of the story improve from chapter four and onwards. You will enjoy the story if you are interested in history, worldbuilding, and the butterfly effect (along with a few badass characters). So even if you are a bit turned off initially, I promise that the story improves quickly. Some early details were accidentally left out, as I wrote the first two chapters a year before writing the third chapter. If you wish to support my writing, feel free to support me on Patreon. TheLastKingdom: Transmigrated w/ Proficiency System

USA, Louisiana.. a small town in north-east Louisiana.. if you see a little-bitty tiny dot with the name 'Oak Grove' beside it.. in the most north-east corner of Louisiana.. fifteen minute drive north.. and you' ve crossed into the state of Arkansas.. Or if you would have drove fifteen minutes east instead of north.. you would have crossed over the Mississippi-Louisiana state line.. so that gives you a pretty good general location of the town of my birth.. Unfortunately it wouldn't be the town of my untimely and unexpected death.. nope.. for I would not die in a town.. no.. I would be eventually crushed.. by a section.. of thirty-two inch.. steel.. heavy-wall.. industrial pipe.. for a natural gas line.. being lay'n.. from just north of the cities.. Odessa and Midland.. of the state of Texas.. Over a thousand miles away from my place of birth.. Bastrop.. Louisiana.. where the closest 'safe' hospital was for me to be born at.. forty miles west.. by north-west from where my family had lived for generations.. Oak Grove.. My family has worked as surveyors.. for pipelines and gas or oil facilities.. being built all across this great country on the continent of North America.. for atleast two generations.. If my children take up the mantle.. that would make.. three generations of my family.. to feed and provide for their families.. working as pipeline surveyors.. see Oak Grove is poor.. poor as dirt.. total population.. barely over two thousand.. average gross income per capita per family for a year.. less than ten thousand dollars a year.. there's just no real paying jobs.. in Oak Grove or anywhere near it.. so while the people who choose to work in Oak Grove make ten thousand dollars a year.. I started out as a 'rod-man' which was the lowest man on the 'totem-pole'.. making what those in Oak grove..worked a year for.. I made in a month.. I did nothing but pack bundles of wooden stakes.. then carry them up the mountains of West Virginia.. Or across the deserts of West Texas.. swamps of south Louisiana.. down around Baton Rouge.. or Tibbedaux.. the Everglades of Florida.. fuck I get that nauseous feeling every time I think of when I 'work'd' there.. I walked up on a dead body without a head.. not long after that.. still on the same project I saw the 'headless' corpse on.. I almost stepped on the biggest python I've ever seen.. the fucker was atleast ten feet long and two to three feet wide around.. Anywho, back to what I was talking back before I went off subject for a bit.. I started out making ten thousand dollars every month.. thats twelve times what I would have earned working a month in Oak Grove.. instead of working in these dangerous jobs.. Been a lot of dangerous places.. dangerous terrains.. working in a very hazardous career.. but I was well paid like I said.. and now I don't have a body left to send home to my parents.. that section of pipe.. weigh tens of thousands of pounds.. when the 'Komoda' excavators that were lifting the section tipped.. that was it.. one of the operators didn't extend his 'boom' on his excavator all the way out like he should have.. Now the pipes falling.. as soon as it lands on me.. thats it.. so much weight.. my head will pop and shoot right of my shoulders.. up in the air towards the heavens themselves.. reaches its peak height of its short flight.. then falling.. all whilst my body will be crushed and explode to nothing but splatter'd meat paste.. ending my first life.. trust I've seen it.. I know what will happen from experience.. and so beings the next chapter of life.. I see a tunnel with bright light radiating from then end of it.. as I reach the light I take the final step.. the blinding light recedes and fades away out of existence.. I find my surroundings returning to a lightness that my eyes can afford to see clearly in.. only to meet another pair of eyes facing me.. everything else is shrouded by darkness.. I see only eyes.. staring at me.. staring into me.. starin
