Duncan's contemplation bore no fruit, for he now had no idea where to find another breathing Sun Cultist to test his conclusions.
This sort of thing was a matter of fate.
Duncan slowly stood up, and in the underground basement, one after another, the dim green Spiritual Fire lamps swayed without wind in the enclosed space, casting indistinct shadows. In this play of light and shadow, his thoughts slowly began to broaden again.
Believers who had faith in gods and received their blessings might be regarded by the Fire of the Spiritual Body as a kind of "Transcendent item." Then... what about ordinary people?
If this fire burned on ordinary people, aside from the superficial "special effects of light and shadow," would it have any other effects? If not, to what extent must one believe in a god for the fire to regard them as a valid "Transcendent target"? The fire could burn Heretics who believed in Evil Gods, but what about those who believe in righteous gods?
