Final round of the competition

The final round of the tournament has finally started as those. who qualify was preparing themselves to go for it. The three final contestants were Lydia, Abigail and John.

The score on the screen was Brilliance High school and Prosperous High school being equal with thirty five points each, while Excellence star following behind with thirty points.

The total number of questions left were eighteen in number. The final rule of the competition was for them to continue picking questions and answering it until any of them fail or untill the question finish and then they will decide the winner by the scoreboard.

The first person to start was John from Prosperous High, after picking his question, he answered it and was correct. The next person was Abigail and she answered hers also and so did Lydia.

They turn again while doing the same thing up to three times until John couldn't make it in time and was eliminated.

It was now Abigail and Lydia with the total of nine questions left out of the hundred.

Abigail being the first in line start by picking her question and answering it with Lydia doing the same when it got to her turn.

After the third time, Abigail was put in a tight spot as the question she picked wasn't something that was easy to solve.

Although she was first lost when she saw the question, she compose herself and was determined to try and solve it.

Calling out her answer in time before the timer could get to zero, she waited for the judge to call the result.

"Your answer is wrong miss Abigail, you are intelligent and I acknowledge you for it" said the judge. "You will have to wait to see the result of your opponent before you will be given your score, if she isn't able to solve hers, then you two would go again".

It was now Lydia turn to pick a number, seeing as there were just two number left, she won't have to battle much to pick, not that she was being selective with her questions the previous time.

After picking her number and seeing the question on the screen, she didn't waste time as she start solving for it.

Knowing as this was the last part of the final, she took her time in solving it unlike when she always solve her questions quickly.

Raising her head and looking at her opponent who was now praying, Lydia shake her head before continue solving her question.

Seeing as it was three seconds left on the timer, she quickly called her answer and wait patiently for the judge to call the answer.

"This has really been a long rollercoaster ride and I'm happy to say that we have finally found our winner of this year competition. Your answer is correct miss Lydia, and this makes you the winner of this year mathematic competition. Congratulations" said the judge. "Congratulations to you too miss Abigail, you took second in this year competition, it isn't easy".

The sound of clapping was what almost everyone could hear in the hall as the winner of this year mathematics competition had been announced.

Walking towards Lydia. Abigail stretch forth her hand for a handshake, which Lydia accept after looking at her for some seconds.

"Not going to lie, I was really praying for you to fail so I can win" said Abigail as he shake her hand. "But all the same congratulations, you are a worthy opponent" added Abigail.

"And so are you" was the short reply from Lydia as she walked forward so they can hand over the maths award to her.

"What's wrong with Kiran, is he not feeling fine?" Asked Abigail to Lydia as she was about to walk forward.

"I don't know, why don't you ask him and beside how do you know him?" Asked Lydia as she take some step back.

"We are friends" was the reply from Abigail.

Mr Andrew seeing as Lydia as been proclaim winner of the competition, he quickly walk towards Kiran and gesture for him to stand up so they could walked forward and take a photo of them with the award.

As it was their school that come out winner of this year competition, it's right for them to go to the stage when the award was being presented to their student.

Kiran hold the left side of the cup with Lydia holding the right side and mr Andrew being in the back.

After finish taking the picture, Kiran walked back to his chair so as to wait for them to finish everything so they could go back home.

"Kiran, wait up" said Abigail as he catch up to him. "What's it, are you not feeling well?" Asked Abigail as she notice that he wasn't too active in the competition.

"I'm fine, I just have to rest and be alone" was the reply from Kiran.

On hearing the words of Kiran, the joyful expression on her face quickly die down as she didn't expect that Kiran would say such a thing to her.

"Oh okay" said Abigail as she turned to leave with a sad expression on her face.

"Congratulation Abigail, I'm really sorry for what I said, but I have to be alone for now, I really wish to explain myself but I just can't" said Kiran before she could walked away.

"Thanks" replied Abigail as she walked away.

Walking out of the hall with his hand covering his ears, he walked towards the parking lot where he rest his back on Mr Andrew car while waiting for them.

A pained expression could be seen on his face as he rest his back on the car. Remembering the sad expression on the face of Abigail not too long ago was making him feel down as he was the cause of it.

'What's wrong with me' was the only word he could say to himself as he slide down from the car.
