The journey to Polis was uneventful, to say the least. The whole time, Clarke's new friend, Roan, didn't talk with us at all and neither did Clarke for some reason. However, both Bellamy and I tried to least get her to talk with us for the first half of our trip, but after she had enough of our nagging, she begged us to stop trying.
Sadly, for Bellamy and me, as soon as we reached Polis, the guards apprehended us under their commander's orders. I don't know why or how Lexa came to that result, but both Bellamy and I somehow ended up as a possible threat to the commander's life and we would have to be locked until further notice.
As soon as Clarke saw us getting dragged away by the guards, she tried to fight back, but when she heard a very familiar voice, she froze, not knowing what to do and how to treat the girl that betrayed her trust and feelings.
"It's good to see you, Clarke. I hope Roan was too harsh with you. "
"Why are you taking my friends away?"
"As much as I would love to talk with the sculptor of ice, as well as with the older sibling of Octavia, I have my reasons to believe that they are after my head. Some of my people have found proof that their real purpose was to kill me, and because of that, my most trusted aide suggested that we should keep these two locked away until proven wrong."
Hearing what Lexa was just saying, Clarke's face fell even more, now that she had been caught, after three months, most likely thanks to the bounty Lexa put on her, Clarke could resign to her fate, not even fighting back. There was no point anyways, she was alone, Polis had way too much security that would definitely search for her if she even tries to escape.
"No need to look so dejected, my dear Wanheda."
Lexa commented on her facial expression. Clarke simply crossed her arms over her chest again a pout reappearing on her face.
"Don't act like you care, Lexa! You betrayed us when we were supposed to be allies."
"And still, you and your friends are alive, Clarke. Your friend, Leon got the nickname the Sculptor of Ice in just a few weeks. You know why?"
Clarke only shook her head in response, not understanding why would Lexa bring Leon into their conversation.
"He killed over a hundred Ice Nation people since he returned from down south. Every day for the past two weeks, I will get messengers pleading for me to help get rid of him."
"Why would that matter? He's only fighting in his name from what I know."
"That's not the point, Clarke. He, a member of the Sky People had betrayed the alliance and the coalition by attacking people from one of the clans. By our laws, he's guilty and normally I should behead him, though it would be a pity to lose such a good warrior like him. More so ever when one of my only friends would leave my side if I ever order his death."
The two of them reached a room where Anya was waiting for them. Lexa's people had prepared the dinner for their commander, as well as her guests. Clarke was silent for the rest of the evening only picking at her food with a sullen mood. She was conflicted and Lexa's words were still echoing in her mind, poisoning her thoughts. Anya knew that trying to ease up Clarke's state would not be fruitful so she picked up the book from the nightstand after they had finished their dinner. Before she let Clarke enter her own room, Anya decided to at least do something for Wanheda.
"Clarke, don't worry about Leon. While I'm still living, he won't die, not by our hands, at least."
"That's reassuring, Anya, thanks. Have a good night."
Although Anya gladly now served Lexa in Polis she never felt as at home in the city as she did in the woods. Therefore, she looked forward to getting back to her previous occupation and being as far away from the city as Lexa would allow her to be. Even though she loved to be once again a warrior, Anya knew that thanks to the ever-growing tension between the tribes, she won't leave Lexa's side shortly, not after Gustus betrayed her.
Leaving the book on her nightstand, Anya decided to visit the prison, in hope that someone may help her relax in her new life. No one bothered stopping her, mostly due to how much they respect her as well as their commander, who made Anya her personal guard, making Anya's life even more turbulent than it was already. If her duties before were hard enough, training the warriors and leading expedition inside Azgeda territory, now her day-to-day activity only happened inside Lexa's room or inside the main hall where Lexa listened to various tribes complain every day about something new.
As soon as she reached the cell where Leon was being held, she saw him waiting by the door, not bothering to rest for the night at all. It didn't take him more than a few seconds before he notice her walking toward his cell.
"Trouble sleeping?"
"What will you do if I say yes?"
"That depends…what will I get in return if I help you?"
"Who knows? Maybe a free passage outside these walls?"
Anya suggested but was already sure to receive a negative answer.
I could only smile at her, before I opened the door to my cell, surprising Anya. The warriors that brought us here didn't even bother checking us for weapons or tools, so it was a child game for me to picklock my cell. While I could have escaped together with Bellamy, the warriors took him away, four hours after they brought us down here, making me imagine the worst. By some luck or maybe it was my overbearing charm, the second most important person inside this place came to my cell, late at night.
"So, shall we go?"
Still surprised by what she had just witnessed, Anya quickly regained her composure before escorting me to her room.
A similar meeting happened in front of Lexa's room where Clarke somewhat reluctantly walked inside her "friend" room, expecting a proper explanation as to why was she so suddenly brought to her instead of being sent to her camp.
