Chapter 67 - Leave it all behind

It has been two months since Mount Weather was captured and my friends killed all of its residents. Shortly after we buried everyone dead, I decided to leave Camp Jaha and venture towards what has once been the south of America.

There wasn't any particular reason as to why I wanted to leave the camp other than how much I despite Abby for her idiotic choice of abandoning the bunker as well as punishing everyone other than her daughter, who got the worse of her mother berating. No matter what Clarke said, Abby didn't believe that Clarke was at fault, instead, she was adamant about her choice of imprisoning everything other than her daughter for the time being, which not only put her in a bad light but also made Clarke leave the camp a week later.

After Clarke left the camp, I went to my friends and asked them if anyone was willing to come with me, and unsurprisingly Monroe and Sergey were the only ones that accepted my offer. Bellamy wouldn't have left without his sister, while Finn remained behind in case Clarke came back. As for Raven, Miller, Monty, and Harper…they didn't want to leave the camp for various reasons, but that didn't mean that they were happy with how everything worked around the camp.

We left the camp the very same night I asked them, without even looking back, even though we could hear Abby's and Kane's protests about our sudden departure. I have no doubt that Byrne was the one to find out that we are leaving as well as the one who informed Abby and Kane and to be fair, she's doing her job of keeping the camp and the people that live inside of it safe and alive.

Before we left though, Monty asked me if I would take Jasper with us, because he believes that keeping the guy in the camp would only do him more damage than going away from the place where the love of his life died. If only he wasn't such an idiot, I would have considered taking him along, but in the state, he was right now, he was just a danger to us as well as a liability.

Truth be told, he was a joke. He was weak. He was as weak as most of us when we first came here, but instead of learning and becoming more mature like the rest of us he just played. Most if not all of the surviving delinquents hate him. He wanted to get in a girl's pants so bad that as soon as the Mountain Maya showed up, he was faster than a cheetah to defend the Mountain Men and say that Clarke was the danger instead of trying to keep them safe. Besides, the war wouldn't have started without Jasper giving his blood to Maya, saving the girl as well as giving those mad people the proof that we are their way of living under the clear sky. If he would have agreed to leave, then maybe, just maybe we all could have avoided this senseless massacre.

"Leon?" Monroe asked gently, coming closer to me. She looked at me with worry in her eyes, clearly seeing the expression I was making. "Are you alright?"

"I'm better now that we left the camp. In fact, it's perfect if you think about it. Now we won't have to listen to Abby's bullshit every day."

Rather than hearing Monroe's response, Sergey, who was leaning against a tree on our right side decide to argue with my response.

"Don't be like that Leon. We all know that despite what Clarke's mother says or does, she's trying her hardest to keep everyone alive. Even if she would have to sacrifice the happiness of everyone. "

"Sergey's right, this isn't the first and it won't be the last time she would do it, especially if it means keeping Clarke alive. We all have seen what she was ready to do, you, in particular, got to experience it, when she gave you away in exchange for the safety of her princess."

Suddenly something or someone was heard from behind the bushes. Both Monroe and Sergey raised their rifles at the bushes before I was able to tell them that we would be joined by another person.

"Lower your guns you two, it's a friend. He's going to come with us down south."

A few seconds later, a tall and muscular man with very long, braided, grayish-black hair with a long, grayish-black beard to match walked out of the bushes before he greeted me.

"Skai Osleya."

"It's good to see you, Gustus. I hope Anya didn't beat you too much."

"She helped me more than I deserve Osleya. If not for her and Mara, then Heda would have definitely killed me for what I have done."

"Don't sell you that cheap, Gustus. You did everything for Lexa and I know that she knew that, but your people have different laws than us. She couldn't have left you alive after the stunt you pulled. Thankfully the whole Mt. Weather assault happened and we managed to get you out of the camp before Lexa or Indra took your head."

"It doesn't matter, Osleya. I would die one day, either by the blade or by the bullet. Not to mention the bounty put on my head, as well as yours. We are targets for my people and sooner or later they would track us down."

"Let me guess, Lexa's still angry that I left after she said that she own me ?"

"Not only that but even Wanheda, your friend, Clarke has a bounty on her head. Albeit one that specifically asks for her to be brought alive in front of Heda."

"Poor princess, she wanted to get away from the whole thing, and yet, Lexa can't forget about her."

"You know about it?"

"C'mon Gustus, I have my fair share of experience in that regard, Monroe and everyone that wasn't captured by the mountain men knew that there was something between Lexa and Clarke. Heck, even Finn, Clarke's boyfriend had his doubts, but until now, no one knew for sure."

"Here you are wrong, Osleya. Heda doesn't seek love she just wants someone that would sleep with her. Nothing more, nothing less."

While Gustus and I were talking about Lexa and Clarke, Monroe finished cooking the deer that Sergey and I caught earlier today.

"Guys! The meat is ready. Let's eat. We're going to move soon and I'd rather leave on a full stomach."

Sergey took a piece of meat with his knife before he looked at the knife, then at me. "Are we sure we won't die from it ?"

"You got a problem with it, big guy? If you don't want it give it back!"

Meanwhile, I just looked back at him and shrugged. No matter how I'd look at it, I refuse to believe that something that looks so good may be disgusting. Therefore, without even hesitating I cut a bite-size piece and eat it. As soon as I gulped it down, I was stunned. The meat was good. It was tender and moist.

When Monroe saw my shocked face, she laughs before I looked at her, not even hiding the shock on my face

She smiled, of course, the meat was delicious, it wasn't her first time cooking.

"It tastes delicious, Zoe, thanks."

Monroe's cheeks went red. "Thanks. Great to hear you like."

I can see that she wanted to say something more than just that, especially now that I wonder why was she so embarrassed by her cooking is good, but sadly this was neither the time nor the place for a talk like this. We have to leave as soon as we eat. Since I'd rather know that the bounty hunters are kilometers away rather than wait for them to catch up with us. Not to mention that I'd rather conserve our ammo than waste on a bunch of greedy warriors that belief can take me on.
