Back in the present, silence persisted.

Blair could not help but wonder what brought on this sudden visit, worried that she caused trouble for everyone again without her realizing it. Shifting her gaze back up, she found Conrad regarding her in quiet contemplation.

"I've learned from your parents that there's been a few concerns with your studies. We've tried to create a stimulating environment for you so that you wouldn't want to-"

"But it isn't the same when there's no one-"

He silenced her with a look. Chastened, her eyes dropped to the floor.

"There are reasons we decided to homeschool you," Conrad asserted.

The remembrance of her abduction burned as it weighed in her mind. It struck a nerve, too. The burden she placed on them was what kept her from voicing out her thoughts.
