Chapter Thirty-Six

Cyro adjusted himself on the cold ground in his new home. It was a tiny room and had no windows. Only way he could tell if it was night was because of the groundlings. They got closer every night. The guards only fed him once a day too, and they treated him like he was a groundling himself. He spent most of his time dreaming of Mira. He wanted to hold her in his arms, caress her cheek, and never let go again. She came into his life like a storm and now he was left with nothing. Not a single drop of rain, nor a nice cool breeze. Heili came to visit him, but only to try to hurt him. She said that Mira found herself two new mates, the wolves. He knew better, Mira wouldn't accept other mates. Not when she plans to leave this place, and as far as he could tell she nots interested in anyone else. The sound of the door to the hut opening and closing sprung him to his feet. He stood still against the wall, not sure who to expect. Then he smelled her. He wanted to run to the door, but the smell of the wolves kept him back. His heart sank as he realized she came to reject him. There was another smell, mixed with Mira's. It was sweet, almost like peppermints and berries.

The door opened and her tiny body came crashing into his. He could stop himself from lifting her up and holding onto him. Her scent like a fresh breath of air. The other scent mixed with her own seemed to be coming from her. The sound of Indigo clearing his throat brought him back to where he was. He slowly put her down, not looking at her. If she was going to reject him then she needs to do it now. The feeling of her hand against his face was like the softest leave he's ever felt. She forced him to look at her, as he saw tears streaming from her eyes. Yet at the same time she was smiling.

"We're going to get you out of here." She whispered to him

He looked up at Indigo and Kylo, who were standing next to each other in front of the door. They both nodded, letting him know it was true. He looked back at Mira and pulled her in for another hug. He knew she wouldn't betray him, that she'd still fight for him. But that didn't answer what the new smell was. He moved her back and looked at the other two, waiting to hear about the plan.

"We plan to use the law of no harming females to our advantage." Indigo spoke up.

"Say you only did what you did because you knew it would harm your mate." This time Kylo spoke. "Say he was trying to manipulate her."

He had to admit it was a better plan than the one he had. He just thought he would escape by digging his way out. The ground was nothing but dirt, and his claws should make quick work. He nodded in agreement and wished to address the sweet berry smell. He looked at Mira and noticed that she also lost some weight. He would think she was sick, but she didn't smell sick. He didn't know what to think. She suddenly ran out of the room, and he tried to follow. The guards kept him inside while Kylo and Indigo ran to her side. He could hear her vomiting just outside and became instantly worried. She's not sick, he would have smelt it on her something else was up with Mira. After thirty minutes have passed, she walked back in with both wolves in tow, as if nothing had happened. He went to her and began smelling her incase he did miss the smell. Yet he got nothing but the same smells he was already smelling. Finally, he looked her in the eyes wanting to get an honest answer.

"What's wrong Mira?" He said in a cool even tone.

"She has been sick lately." Indigo spoke up. "We've tried to get her to see a doctor, but she refused."

"Then how come she doesn't smell sick?" He looked back at Mira who obviously knew she would get in trouble. "I just smell her scent mixed with sweet berries."

"I've sorta been nauseous and unable to eat anything." She bit her lip and looked up at him. If the other hadn't been standing, there he would have taken her then and there.

"Have you been craving anything?" He asked he didn't want to get his hopes up, but he needed to know. He most likely shouldn't tell anyone anything yet either, as it would make Vilen and the others push to experiment on her.

"Fish, something called chocolate, and milk." Kylo spoke this time

"I planned to leave after she saw a doctor to get those things for her." Indigo interrupted him. "It'll take at least a week."

He tried his best to hide his smile, but Mira caught him. He was relieved she wasn't ill. Fish was a well-known favorite of his tribe. Whenever their females were expecting almost all the males in the village would go out fishing. She turned to Indigo and Kylo and they both left the room. He immediately straightened up ready to be yelled at.

"Cyro, what do you know?" She sauntered towards him smiling. He's never seen her do that before and he didn't know if he trusted it.

"Well, um you see…" He didn't know how to tell her, especially when others could be eves dropping.

She stopped five inches from him and crossed her arms. He looked at the door and tried to see if he could hear anyone against the door. Not a sound was made except for Mira's foot tapping impatiently. He grabbed her arm and pulled her into the far-left corner, trying to get as far from the door as possible.

"Mira, um… when our females are expecting the only food they eat is fish." He whispered in her ear, still keeping an eye on the door.

She pulled her arm from him and place a hand over her lower belly. He knew it would be a surprise to her. It was definitely a surprise to him. However, look of horror on her face stabbed him right in the chest. Did she not want to have his baby? He thought about it for a second and realized why she was horrified. One she wouldn't be able to go home now. How could she explain their baby too them? Two humans don't lay eggs. They were in completely uncharted waters. She would need constant surveillance and protection. He walked the door leaving her still standing in horror. The gave the door a good two hits them backed up allowing Indigo and Kylo back him. He didn't know if he could trust them, but they did watch over her these past three days. Then there was the fact he may never get free. His future was very bleak, and she would need someone to protect her and care for her.

"I need one of you to be her new mate." He hated himself for even saying it, but if sharing her meant keeping her safe so be it. "Mira is carrying my beastly."

Kylo just looked at him shocked, but Indigo's eyes went straight to Mira. He was pleased it would be Indigo. The wolf always operated on morals and respect. He would be a great mate for her. Indigo gave him a nod and went to Mira's side. He was happy she'd be looked after, but he wanted it to be him. He also hated the thought of anyone else touching her, but he had no right to complain. He got himself in this place and was careful enough to keep from reproducing with Mira. His heart sank as he watched Indigo lift Mira up in his arms. He remembered the day they found her. How Alzie had carried her back to their tribe. He never once carried her like that. Kylo was already leaving, and he didn't want to keep Mira from seeing a doctor. Just before Indigo left, Mira slid out of his arms and ran back to him.

"I love you," she whispered to him. Then just like that she was gone in Indigo's arms and out the door.

Cyro sank against the wall. He may have been stuck in that tiny room, but he was happier than ever. His mate was fighting for him, carrying his beastly, and she loved him. It was more than he could have asked for, having to fight to stay alive from the moment he was born. He never thought he would even find a mate, let alone have beastlies. Their plan was a good one, if not the best one. It was the only position he could take that would even give him a small chance at freedom. However, that would mean a new chief would have to be made for that Tangerine tribe. While the current one, Vilen, would be put to death. He growled and hissed at the mere thought of Vilen. He knew he should have never allowed Alzie to bring her here. The fact he hasn't come to see him either just showed that he too wanted him out of the way. He made a promise to himself then and there. No one would ever hurt his mate and he will always be there to protect her.
