Breaking the Humanity

Maureen and I are having a pretty good night. The sun had set hours ago and we were just sitting on the living room floor watching old movies. The pizza had long since disappeared with Maureen's wolfish appetite, so I popped pop-corn for us not too long ago. Even that was starting to vanish though.

"Maureen, how the hell does your body keep up with all the food you eat," I ask. I've always been curious, but in the past, I was scared she'd hit me for it. Now that I'm a little more resilient, I could hold my own.

Maureen looks at me with an eyebrow raised, her cheeks puffed out with a mouthful of popcorn, making her look like a chipmunk. "Wha- men?"

I laugh. Having learned to understand Maureen when her mouth was full, I can tell that she's asking what I mean. "I mean, you eat, like, nonstop. If I did that, I'd gain ten pounds a day."

Maureen quickly swallows and chuckles. "Not anymore."

Now it's my turn to raise an eyebrow. "What?"
