We followed after him through a spare corridor that branched into a labyrinth of offices. I really didn't know how someone wouldn't get lost in here. Not long after we arrived at a very ordinary room that look identical to the other one hundred I saw while walking. A wooden table, comfortable leather chairs and bright lights hanging from the ceiling. The walls were completely white with nothing decorating them. It simply looked like an interrogation room.
We sat down opposite the man after he indicated for us to do so. "Thank you for your co-operation, it is necessary to go over the things that a brought by wizards when they are travelling. security and all that. After all, as you might be aware of, even a single wizard can cause a lot of trouble." He said as he looked at me.
"My name is Mathew, and I will be going over your magical belongings. So, if you will, please present your magical objects including your wand, and place them here," he said calmly and patiently as he took out a metal tray.
I nodded and took out my wand from its sheath and laid it on the tray followed by taking off my bracelet and placing it on the tray as well. The man looked at it as if expecting something more. "That's it, my belongings are all in the bracelet," I informed.
He looked at the plain unassuming bracelet in slight surprise. He then realised that it had an expansion charm in the gem that was on the bracelet. He nodded in understanding. "I see, may I have your permission to access your belongings?"
I nodded and waved my hand over the bracelet deactivating the normal protective charm and the personally made one. "Done, you can do with it as you please."
He proceeded to pull out his wand and cast some sort of charm or spell to search the contents. I assumed it was a magic that searched for dangerous or suspicious artifacts containing magic. Guns would also be searched for. Even when in a magical world, guns are very effective.
It took 30 seconds, and he retracted his wand from above the bracelet and nodded. He then did the same with the wand before placing the tray in front of me. "Thank you for your patience, nothing suspicious has been detected and you are free to board the plane when it is time. Have a pleasant journey," he said with a smile before getting up. All three of us nodded and walked back under his guidance before heading to the gate where we would board our plane.
I looked at the ticket which had gate 36 on it. It took about 10 minutes to get there. As in any airport, there was a ton of people. I also saw wizards being led by similar airport staff like the one that led us. Naturally, you wouldn't really know or pay attention to them if you weren't another wizard. It was evident by Luke and Diana's lack of reaction when they passed right by us. Some type of spell or charm I assumed. There was something like it in the library back at Hogwarts so it might be worth learning for instances where you don't want to be bothered in the muggle world.
I think it was like a repellent charm or something. I'll make a mental note to search for it when I was at Ilvermorny. When we arrived at the gate and took a seat in some random empty chairs, I checked the time. There was still about thirty minutes until boarding time, if everything went according to schedule.
There was literally nothing to do. And there were no bloody phones yet, since that was still in the midst of innovation. Right now, only the bulky almost brick-like phones were present. It wouldn't be until a decade later when the real phones appeared and even then, it would take yet another decade until we got good touch screen ones, not the early shitty ones.
As I was thinking about that, I got an idea about how to get money. I could invest in companies like Apple and Microsoft that were at the forefront of innovation in their respective markets. They were small right now, ready for the pickings. The reason was simple, pounds could be converted into galleons and vice versa, and money was needed in everyday life. I could get Luke and Diana a bigger house, better cars and the sort. It all run on money. Even though me and Drak already had a plan on how to get large amounts of galleons, investing in the muggle world like the Malfoy family did would be smart.
After all, having a continuous inflow of money was necessary. I will see if I can do something about it while I'm in America. As for why they would trust or even take a 12-year-old kid seriously, well, the imperio curse does wonders for people.
I could use the imperius curse to take money from other families instead of going through so much effort in America, but I have some principles, I wouldn't stoop to such a low if I have a way to avoid it. That isn't to say I wouldn't if I had no other option, but since I did, I wouldn't have to. As for the conversion of money from American dollars to English pounds, the magical community doesn't really care. Goblins love money, doesn't matter in what form.
The PA system sounded informing passengers that the plane at gate 36 was open and boarding would commence shortly. I was happy to hear that since sitting here doing nothing was definitely not fun. As for how I was going to get from American to England and back constantly, well, I was planning to make a portkey. There was never a stipulated maximum distance that one could take with one so why not. I would place one in America somewhere and carry the other in my bracelet for convenience.
