A man sat on his wooden couch in a large room, listening to the music playing in the background. In between the humming, he sipped his alcohol. The room was dimly lit, and the only source of light was the fireplace, which flashed on his face.
Listening to the knock, he darted his gaze at the door. A servant walked in with his head bowed down and eyes at the floor.
"Sir, someone has arrived to meet you," he informed him.
"Who is it?"
"He said you won't regret meeting him," he said.
Words made the man frown. Normally, he would have ignored the visitor, but the man's arrogance drew his attention.
He whispered, "Shane."
He stood up and walked sluggishly towards the guest room where Shane waited for him.
"What brings you here at this time?" He inquired.
"I'd been missing you, Simon. I hope you're having a good time without me," Shane said in a pleasant yet sarcastic manner.
Simon rolled his eyes, knowing well about him.
"Aren't you glad I'm here?" He asked, pouting at him.
"I'm perfectly aware that you only meet people on two occasions. Either to ruthlessly slay them or to convey an order. I am not a fool like Baronet to betray and die. So what are the orders?" Looking into his blue eyes, he inquired.
"You know me so well, Simon dear and it impressed me. I would have liked to marry you if you were a woman," he said with a wicked and mischievous smile.
"Come to the point Shane,"
"Will you not ask your visitors for some refreshments? Humans, I assumed, were more hospitable than we were." In a grouchy tone, he said.
Simon responded, "A raw meat eater like you won't be content with human food."
Shane responded with a nasty grin, "Unless the human serves himself as my dinner."
"All right, I'll get to the point," he continued, "everything is progressing as planned. Our man is a member of the council now."
Simon Aldrich gave him a nod as he listened intently.
"What about the Hall murder case?" Shane asked.
"All good. It's in my team's hands, and I'll find out if they progress, which they plainly won't," Simon responded, evilly grinning.
"Thanks for the information about the route in which the corpse was being carried. If you hadn't told the coachman to take this route, it would have been difficult to figure out what path Alfred would take. That dimwit might never have expected something like this to happen."
"Well, that's why I sat there. To help you," Simon replied.
"Who was the old man?" Simon questioned.
"Felix"
Simons' eyes widened as he was taken aback. He wondered how incredibly dumb Alfred was for not being able to recognise Felix whom he had encountered in the council office for god knows how many times.
"While he distracted the fool, I stole the body," Shane added.
Simon nodded. "What was the reason behind killing Hall? I assumed he was on our side, and the way he was assisting us made me believe he would never betray us," he said.
"Hall is alive," Shane revealed.
"What!" Simon was receiving one shocking news after another. He was convinced that Hall had betrayed them the entire time that's why he was killed.
"Hall was tracked down by a councilman from another province. That nasty guy has done many bad deeds before settling himself in Diremoor," he explained.
"Why was he behind him?" Simon inquired, intrigued by the man's history.
"From what I have heard, he killed a woman because she rejected him out of ego. Turned out that the woman was the fiance of a man belonging to a noble family."
Simon sighed and shook his head incredulously. "Youngblood, what else can I say."
Shane chuckled at his words and said "I appreciate the brilliance of the councilman who succeeded in finding him despite him living in a different province but for his unfortunate fate. Got killed by Hall."
"Indeed. Is that why you made me send an order to the magistrate to stay away from the crime scene?"
Shane nodded his head in agreement. "The magistrate would have recognised the body and the crime location being Hall's house, he would have been the first suspect. And you already know that if he had been caught, our plans would have fallen right there."
"What about the body?"
"Burnt," came a sharp reply.
"Well, then deeds are hidden well I guess," Simon stated.
Shane smirked evilly as he nodded. "What has Sir Admiral been up to lately? Is he still behind Baronet's murder case?" He inquired, being amused.
"Felix has recently joined his team. It may take a few days for him to gain his trust, after which he will only be able to provide us with information. As far as I know, he hasn't dropped the case yet."
"What a stubborn man! Going after a case which has no head or legs," Shane remarked.
"He will have to work hard to gain trust. After his niece entered the council, that man has stopped sharing stuff and appears to be mysterious, doubting everything. God knows what's going in his head," Simon replied, wondering about him.
"Exactly the reason why Felix is there. To get the information," Shane replied.
Simon nodded in understanding and asked, "Did you find the thing which Baronet took out from the council's record room?"
"Not yet,"
"Find it before the council is unaware of it. No one can stop them from discovering the rest of the plan if that evidence is found by any of the council members."
Shane agreed with a nod of his head.
"What brings you here, by the way? I presume not for a random visit because I absolutely despise them as much as sweet alcohol."
"Make preparations for the cursed one to slaughter his next victim." Shane's face lit up with a wicked grin as he spoke those words.
"Who is it?" Simon asked, looking at him in boredom as the killing was nothing new to him.
"Princess"
