Chapter 13
"Hey," he said
"Hey" I replied to the creepy face student
He paused, then stared at me for a while. "You're Rose Black, right?"
"Yeah! But who is asking?" I asked him. He was weird, and this seemed to be the first time I was seeing this face here. Was he a student or a worker?
"No one, I just wanted to tell..." he said and moves closer to me "to be careful, you are not safe here."
With that, he left. I sat frozen in place, "hey what do you..." before I could get myself, he was gone. I searched for him throughout that day, but couldn't find him.
Although no one approached me about what happened, a lot of things change, while the changes did not affect my studies, my physical well-being was.
Apart from my phone that was taken, my laptop was taken too, I could not make any phone calls without the teachers watching me, while others were eating and having fun during break I was worked to the bone, I became a slave, come rain or sun or even the winter I worked in and outside the premises; no one ever bother to report or help me out, everyone just went on with their daily business.
I could never go out of the school. The time I spent contacting father reduced, and before you know, I lost contact with my dad.
They only fed once me a day, and some time before I finished with my over pack portion of work, the kitchen will be empty, and I had to make do with left over. Sometimes I don't even eat for weeks but work, when I try to confront them, I get beaten by some students, my monthly and weekly allowance was taken from me, my phone and laptop became the property of the teachers, I had no one to call or ask for help and I couldn't help but remember my past of how I was hurt by my nanny, uncle and mother.
At night, I will cry from the pain of blisters on my hands and legs, even when I was sick, I was made to work like a dog; if I didn't know better, I would say their intention was to get rid of me for good.
This went on for close to two years. By this time, I was as skinny as a bone, and you couldn't tell because of the clothes I had to put on, I suffer from starvation, with no one to help me.
There was a time I wished time could roll back, but nothing of that sort happened. I could not even spare a glance at my reflection in the mirror, afraid of the horror that might stare back.
Then one winter, the news came that the head of the school was visiting; I had only meant him once, and that was when I first started here; I was dancing with joy, this was my liberty of course when he finds out about the maltreatment of the teachers toward me, they were going to get punish and since everyone was busy preparing for his arrival, none of the teacher took notice of me as I left them outside and went inside, if they saw me going in, they would stop me with beaten.
I hide myself in my room, waiting for the HOS. I fall asleep waiting for him and for the first time in my life; I dreamt a pleasant dream and by the time I woke up it was dark; I came out from my room and meet all the student downstairs partying.
There were celebrating the HOS returned, and since there didn't notice me I blend in with them, I decide to eat and that was the first time in the last year and half; I was eating like a complete human being and not an animal. I couldn't help but tear up.
Just then the HOS, stood up and headed towards his office direction and I zoomed after him, because I was in a hurry I was almost caught by the supervisor, I quickly heed myself at the side balcony as I watched the HOS went into the bathroom, then I went to wait for him inside his office, if not now I don't know if I could ever get this chance.
I approached his office, luckily it was open, as I went in I heard some noise coming from the other end of the corridor, I hurried inside and closed the door with a bang, causing the shelf on top of the door to collapse on me.
"Ouch, that hurts." I grunt. "Who the hell will put a bookshelf on a door." I snap but hurried and pick the books, and then I notice that not all of them were books, some were letters. As I hurried to put the books in place, one letter with its signature caught my attention; I removed it from the others. As I was about to check it, the door flew open, and the supervisor came in. I quickly hide the letter underneath my shirt.
