At the sound of his voice, I was compelled to look up. Yes, and there they were, those dark eyes I’d longed to look into for so long. “This is Vassilios,” I muttered.

While Ingrid made small talk with Vassilios, I stood there, my ears buzzing.

“How are you, Allan?”

I kept fussing with my jacket. “Fine. Just fine. You?”

He didn’t answer me. Just smiled a little.

How I’d missed his scent. His voice. His way. “I’ve heard you’re all doing really well. And that youlanded a marketing—”

“Your sister looks beautiful.” Davinder’s eyes broke away from mine as he looked over at Elsie and Dayton. “They’re happy.” There was still a vague melancholy about him, and it made him more beautiful to me. There were so many layers to Davinder. He turned his attention back to me. “I’ve beenmeaning to call—”

“Oh, it’s starting!” Ingrid pulled away from our group. “Go take your seats.”

“We better go,” Vassilios said. “Nice to meet you.” He tossed his chin up at Davinder.
