A strictly matriarchal mer

When Master Bing saw that Second Sister Chen was shouting at him, he was furious. How could she lose his temper on him like that? He pursed his lips and after a second spoke angrily, "Why are you getting angry at me? Isn't it because of your mother and sister? They obviously knew that Yu Dong's business was going to earn money but they spoke as if it was some risky endeavor! I was led astray by them as they continued to make it sound like some dangerous job." 

Thats right! He was not at fault, it was his mother-in-law and sister-in-law who deliberately fooled him. They kept harping about the business being risky and whatnot causing Master Bing to think that it was sure to fail. 

How could he a mer think too much? It was because of his in-laws.
