Family dinner 2: Curiosity

People didn't notice him until Max stopped and waited for him. He looked up at Max and immediately felt eyes on him and heard people whispering. He swallowed hard and fought the feeling to take Max's hand because at that moment it would help him calm down.

Gina saw them coming and walked up to them with a wide smile. "Guys, you're late..." she said softly glaring at his son while taking them one by one in her arms.

"I'm sorry, I wasn't ready on time..." Trevor said apologetically

"Oh, it's fine sweety... I thought it was because of him;" she pointed at her son

Max just let out an exasperated sigh "Mom, I thought you wanted us to come here for lunch, what is this?" Max, still had a tiny hope that it would just be a little dinner but as expected it wasn't.

"Oh, it's not like you didn't know ..." said Gina, paying no attention to her son's sour face.

"Yeah, but this is making Trey uncomfortable!" He said, glancing at Trevor, who was watching the argument between son and mother from the side.

Gina just looked at him with apologetic eyes "Sorry Trevor, just take it as a party" she smiled.

Trevor just nodded and looked around thinking that he should go look for Grandfather Maxwell right now before he felt too uncomfortable "Where are Grandfather and father?" he asked.

"Oh, you might be able to find them in the study," Gina said, leading him into the house with a big smile. As soon as Trevor disappeared into the house, she looked at her own son with a displeased face, crossing her arms.

"What?" asked Max, one eyebrow up.

"I say you are competent, even excellent at everything you do! How come you can't even mark your own mate ?" Gina said scornfully, "I can't even brag to my friends that you're taken now!"

Max rolled his eyes "like you said, he's my mate, so mark or not, he's still mine, why do you want us to rush?"

Gina looked at Max with a fuming smile "so now you're telling me you're not in a hurry... Were you, not the one who called me crying that you're scared he'll leave you?"

"Mom..." Max cried out, embarrassment written all over his face. "Can you please give your son some face? I'm working on it, he's not easy to deal with! Just like someone I know," he said, looking meaningfully at his mother.

Gina ignored that looked and just scoffed "You better hurry up! I want a grandchild by the end of the year!" She said before joining her friends.

Max just looked at his mother with his lips pressed together, thinking that it was indeed an unrealistic dream to think that she could have a grandchild now. He entered the house and greeted his father and his friends who were drinking wine. After that Max started looking around as if he was looking for something. Maxime saw this and just shook his head.

"Son, if you're looking for Trevor, he's in your grandfather's study room!" He said with a mocking smile.

Max rubbed the nape of his neck looking at his father as he tried to put on an expressionless face, "I'm looking for grandfather, I still haven't said hello to him."

"Yeah, right..." added Maxime, shaking his head at his son.

Maxime's friends were curious about Trevor, who had greeted them a little while ago, before striding towards the Klyane patriarch's room. Most of them speculated that he was a member of the Klayne family, but it was the first time they'd seen him, so the question lingered in their minds. And when Maxime teased Max, some of them started to understand what was going on. For those who had come with the hope of presenting their daughters, they could see all their hope shattered into pieces.

Maxime, for his part, was glad to see the sour face of some of these moneybags who were drinking wine with him. He'd done it to let them know their plan wouldn't work by dropping the hint that Max already had someone.

For her part, Gina was surrounded by her friends asking her about Max, curious about the man who had come with Max. The questions were kind of the same for everyone. They all wanted to know if it was true that Max would soon be the head of their company, the second question was if Max was still single and the new question was who was Trevor?

Gina shook herself as she heard these questions, the first two she was already used to answer, but with Trevor, she didn't even know what to really tell them. She could see that some of them were interested in the Omega, thinking that he was a Klayne too. They must have thought that if they couldn't have Max, Trevor could be a good catch too. But he was Gina son-in-law so she couldn't let those people lay their eyes on him. Unfortunately, Max had told her not to talk about their relationship so, in the end, she didn't really know what to say. She decided to tell everyone pretty much the same thing.

To the first question, she answered, "His father is still strong, why would he put too much of a burden on our son when he is so young..."

To the second question, she will say, "You know I don't interfere in my son's life... If he had his eye on someone, I wouldn't know unless he told me... Kids are so difficult these days..."

And when asked about Trevor, she replied, "Oh, his name is Trevor, isn't he handsome... He's my father-in-law's protégé. Right now he lives with Max as part of my father-in-law arrangement. I must say, I'll be glad to have him as my son-in-law, he is so adorable... "

She answered all those questions with a nice smile, adding a little salt as she talked about Trevor to show how much she liked the young man.

Her friends were all stunned because she showed so much enthusiasm for this Trevor that you could see the jealousy in their faces. Some of them had tried over and over to ask her to set up their Omega son or daughter with Max, but she had always said that she wouldn't interfere with Max's life, that she couldn't help. but now she was all over that new boy.

As Max was about to go up the stairs, he was spotted by one of his mother's annoying friends, who approached him eagerly. At her side stood a young woman wearing a white floral dress with her black hair tied back in a low ponytail. Max frowned as he spotted the mother and daughter pair, he knew them too well... This friend of his mother was trying to tie him to her daughter since they were children. Dejectedly, he walked towards them, knowing full well what he was about to hear.

For his part, Trevor was already in Maxwell's study, sitting by the window and talking to the grandfather while he watched what was happening outside. Maxwell knew that something was troubling him, for he was not as cheerful as usual. And he could guess what the trouble might be, the way he watched a certain person through the window.

*cough* "Did my good-for-nothing grandson do something wrong?" asked Maxwell, startling Trevor who was deep in thought.

Trevor looked at Maxwell and tried to put on a smile but failed, he couldn't just fake his feelings in front of this man "No grandpa, Max is really good to me... I'm the one who always makes him sad," Trevor said playing with his finger, looking sadly at the ground.

"Did you guys have a fight?"

"Not really a fight... It's just that whenever we have a conversation about our future, or just about our relationship, I... I feel like I can't give him what he want because I always see the negative side of this relationship..." He said and looked back to Max with one of his hands on his cheek, supporting his face...
