CHAPTER 51
“Hurry!” Dan’s shout echoed through the space and hung on Bella’s pained ears. She could barely hear over her own heavy breathing as she tried to keep up. The hair was not helping matters. Hearing the thunder in the distance, they’d picked up their speed, moving in the direction Cathy had told her to go before the events leading to Ken dragging her dear friend away. They’d run until the thunder faded, sounding further and further away, but still they’d walked with as much haste as they could muster. They’d rested in five-minute increments, their eyes trained on every bend and corner.
Now, time felt as though it was actually passing through them, and the urge to rush was greater than the need to rest.
