"You can't do that." He bit out through gritted teeth.

She feigned ignorance and asked, "why?"

He looked at her like she was an idiot and answered her nonetheless. "You don't have a soul of your own. If I take that half back, you will die."

"Okay." She was only asking deliberately earlier but now she was truly curious. "Does this mean that if one of us were to die, the other would automatically die as well?"

He ignored his hurt from her words. Was she trying to imply that she was bothered by the fact that she had half of his soul? Would she rather be dead than have it? She wanted answers, so he gave her just that. "You wouldn't die if I died. Your life is your own. Otherwise, you would have turned into the female version of me."
