She leaned into his embrace.

"How are you feeling? Does it still hurt?" Xiao Mohan asked, his deep black eyes studying her flushing face with tender concern.

Upon his questioning, Gu Chuyan placed her hand over her face, unable to meet his gaze.

"I'm sorry for hurting you! It won't happen again," Xiao Mohan spoke gently, lowering his voice as if afraid he might frighten her with a louder volume.

His voice brimmed with care and anxiety as he sat upright suddenly, somewhat flustered.

He furrowed his brows; the pain she was in weighed heavily on his heart, making him feel sorrowful.

"I'll be right back," the man said hesitantly in a deep voice.

Looking around the empty bedroom, Gu Chuyan felt a sense of surrealness. If not for the physical pain, she would have suspected she was dreaming.

"What am I thinking?" Gu Chuyan slapped her forehead in a bid to clear her thoughts.

Xiao Mohan hurried out of the room, quickly returning with the urgency of a man on a mission.
