CHAPTER 14

Seething in annoyance, she goes on full throttle to scare the girl behind her. Melisca's body almost went stiff, and she can't feel her limbs anymore. Forcing her hand to move a little to slow down her speed before they crush together on the road.

"Slow down for my life's sake, Liz!" Lorna shrieked as the girl's headgear touched Melisca's back, sideways. She did not attempt to look on the highway, for the speed blows her soul away from her body.

"You should have considered that before sticking out the needle on my lap." She managed to say as the strength left her and she can't flex her fingers anymore. It had become frozen in the grip.

She bit her bottom lip to feel something—even just a tiny bit of pain—until her tongue tasted the blood from her chewed lips. This can't be happening. Her body began immobilizing, and she's on her motorcycle at top speed for damn's sake!

Anticipating the shortness of breath when she had first suffered the effects of the syringe, if they would crash on the highway, her only problem would be the big bike, which she loves so much, and then Lorna's neck. If the girl could survive the impact. But she can't allow that to happen on her watch. She had decided to stick with the girl, and maybe everything would fall into place.

"Don't worry, the effects would just be minimal if you are really normal. But please slow down! O-or else you could kill us both, and you can't avenge for your sister!" The tremble in her voice somehow made Melisca smirk on her head. Giving Lorna the fright of riding on her life satisfied her. She had to teach her somehow that her impulsive act can have threatening consequences. And Lorna shouldn't just thrust those needles of hers anywhere and whenever she wants.

But the manipulation of the girl's reasoning to survive still annoyed her. She doesn't have to say that repeatedly. To live to strike back at what had been done to her, for that is what she lives for. No need to be reminded anymore.

They now entered the forest area as they passed the arrays of tower-like trees on each side of the road. Steeling her eyes on their way as she tried to ignore the burning pain in her lungs. Only the thought that the effects would be gone soon is what keeps her from tossing the girl behind her intentionally when she recovers. She's lucky enough that Melisca still had something to do with her, or else she would have left her with the man-wolf chasing her just a while ago.

The girl could have thrust the needle at her when they had stopped over at someplace. But instead, Lorna was very excited to strike her with the pointy weapon just after she said that the girl can find it out herself if Melisca is human.

Melisca, as her wolf vision activated, spotted two tanker trucks a few kilometers straight ahead. The vehicles were crossing towards the intersection. She could have halted for it and waited after it had crossed over. But as her body went immobile, thanks to the inconsiderate girl behind her, she wouldn't be able to step on the break or even move the grip to slow them down.

"Oh my God! Please have mercy. Don't get me killed!" Lorna cried out as she saw what could be coming before them if her crazy driver wouldn't stop to let the trucks on their way. She had closed her eyes inside the helmet, mumbling a miracle to save them. Melisca had not uttered a single word since then, when she had injected her.

"I'm really sorry, please. I won't ever do that again on you." Her tone of pleading reached Melisca's ears.

If only the girl knew that it was her fault for puncturing the needle that made her unable to control the grip to ease their speed.

The two trucks were now crossing, and they were only a meter away. Lorna turned her head. she didn't want to see herself being mowed by a truck.

"No!" Lorna screamed in herself for the ride she's on.

Just as the first truck successfully went to the other side of the road, it was followed by the second one.

Melisca forced her body to move at least a little. Even just the grip.

On the last minute. She didn't give up to at least try to move the handle. But her calculated values helped her. Facing her fears head-on, she did not cower when she was about to hit the truck. Knowing that anytime soon the effects of the needle would vanish, it did not fail her.

As if on cue, when they were about to hit a metal tank, in just a snap, Melisca finally swerved the handle to her left, inserting through the little space between the two trucks. She had also heard another loud, thumping sound of heartbeats, not just her own.

"Are we still alive? Did we get through it?" Lorna asked, bewildered. Like she wasn't in the whole event. Well, her mind just fled, and her spirit left the body when she saw the upcoming lethal crush that could befall them.

Lorna exhaled a loud breath and blinked a few times to process what just occurred within the day.

"Yes. We had survived." Melisca replied. Breathing freely now as the fist in her heart had let go of it. She can now receive air full of lungs. "Any tricks up in your sleeve?" She asked menacingly. Of course, her annoyance wouldn't just be buried down that easily. Lorna had put their lives on the line of what she did impatiently.

"No, not anymore. I'm really sorry."

She can feel the regret in the girls' tone. "Just don't play around when I'm driving, or you'll gonna have a hell of a joy ride in your life. Again." Melisca warned.

The road before them were now clear, as the insect sounds of the forest by each side of the highway, started their chorus of nature. Her ears can hear them loud and clear.

Darkness were falling on them, spreading rapidly on the sky, like hurrying to chase the sun away. As much as Melisca loves travelling at night time, but it would be too risky for her. What more of now that she had a company. If they were attacked by something supernatural, she won't be able to fight back without revealing her abilities to the girl she's with, and all she had gone through with her would just be wasted.

There could be shadows anywhere on the side. Though she can sense someone or if anything is within their area, but she wouldn't be able to focus if she had someone to protect. And this time, she's not sure anymore who could be the target. Either her for she had been chased down by an alpha, or Lorna, who was wanted by the wolves too. No one in the two should be caught by the people after them.

She turned on the headlights while the speed they were going almost reached the maximum limit.

"I have to go fast, we can't stay too long on this deserted road at night." She explained. "Anyway, you said earlier that you have run out of a supply of the syringe. Why did you suddenly have one then? And even struck on me" She questioned, all ears to the answer from the girl.

"Yes, I did run out of the stronger once. What I gave you is just like a sample, but can immobilize you for a short period. It can weaken the victim and gives shortness of breath. However, it only has effects on monsters, supernatural beings. It won't do anything to humans. That's why it's also our way to find out whether you're human or unordinary." The girl's long explanation. Now she had some information obtained.

"So, why was the guy from the restaurant went after us?" She just wants to hear it from Lorna. That she was exactly the one who killed Jethro's friend by her lethal syringe. And of course to pretend that she was oblivious to the happenings around.

"Because of his friend. He thought that I was the one who d-did it."

That made Melisca frown. Her voice shuddered like by just doing the idea of it disgusts her. Lorna's body also went stiff. Melisca can feel the girl's reaction behind, also the her heartbeat that she can hear thumping loudly.

"Did what, Lorna?" She insisted. For the girl to spill it all right to her ears.

"Killed his friend in the men's restroom."

"Killed his friend?" She exclaimed, almost swayed the motor. It gave a strong blow to her that she really was capable of doing it. "But they said he had just slipped and passed out on the floor."

Lorna chuckled as if she had said something stupid. "They announced it like that to not get any civilians involved."

"So, you had done it?"

"No, not really."

The forehead of Melisca creased some more, Her eyebrows almost draw a straight line together. "What do you mean?"

"I was not the one who killed him." Lorna's answer that made Melisca's eyes narrowed in confusion.

I apologize for grammar errors. But I'll correct them soon. Thank you for understanding.
