Two at a Time

Supergirl:

"Capture," Barry screams, "What do you mean by capture? How were Blue Beetle and Firestorm captured!"

"I don't know," I reply, rubbing my forehead and replaying what I saw just before The pulled me through and the portal vanished. "As I was stepping through, I saw yellow bands wrapped around the two and pulled them out of sight."

"Damn it," Barry says, The slapping the back of his head.

"Don't swear," The says, staring at his phone.

"What are we going to do," Selina asks, walking up. "I mean, we can't just leave those two at the 'mercy' of Superman, but it's not like we can rescue them either."

Hearing the word mercy, I couldn't help but look away.

"Superman won't kill them," I say, looking back at all their faces.

"He won't kill them," "The" says, all our faces looking at him now, "But he will try and turn them. If we don't move fast, we'll lose two heavy hitters. Luckily, I'm tracking them right now."

"Wait, what," Barry asks, "How the hel--"

Tossing a knife from his jacket, the knife flying past Barry's head, he stops talking.

"I'm too far enough to slap you," The says, moving his cell phone so it's at arm's length. Using his other hand, he somehow grabs the screen and moves it into the air so we can all see it.

Four screens floating and circling each other, we see the army of yellow lanterns moving through Gotham City, with Blue Beetle and Firestorm flying behind them, still with yellow bars across their chests.

"Are these surveillance cameras," Harleen asks, trying to touch one but her fingers going through it. "Wait a minute, these can't be surveillance cameras? Gotham City is abandoned. There's hardly any power in the whole city!"

"That was before I fixed the electrical grid and installed a few hundred new cameras around the city. There are still also all the cameras from before; cameras in stores and banks, traffic cameras, and even cameras on ATMs. Fun fact for the day, the average person is caught on camera at least 75 times a day."

The screen changes from a wide picture with color switches to a small, black-and-white picture.

"They're moving fast," The says, "And out of Gotham. They must be heading back to New Metropolis. Oh, son of a bastard."

"Son of a bastard", I hear Barry whisper.

"New Metropolis," Leonard repeats, laughing. "Well, isn't that something? They're gone now. There's nothing we can do."

"What are you talking about, Frosty," Harleen says, slapping his arm. "They ain't glowing purple yet! We can still do something!"

"What! What exactly can we do! Fight them before they enter the city? I was there! You weren't! There are too many to fight! And even someone as stupid as you have to know that New Metropolis is an impenetrable fortress. Over a million One Earth soldiers, tanks and helicopters nearby and really for battle, and apparently, now Superman had yellow lanterns on his side! What exactly can we do!"

The:

Literally seeing gears turning in everyone's head as they try and figure out what we can do, I stop when I begin to hear something odd. Sounding like stones cracking and breaking, I focus on the sound, pinpointing its source.

The source is coming from beneath the floor, the cracking sounds getting closer and closer to us. Switching visions, I see what is it and moving fast, I shove everyone behind me.

"Get behind me," I order, grabbing Harleen and Selina and tossing them behind.

"What are you doing," Kara screams, stepping forward but shooting out my arm, I block her.

"We're about to have company," I say, pulling out and tossing kunai! Hitting the ground, they explode and release a massive fireball! A massive root shooting out from beneath the ground, I can hear it scream as it swings wildly around.

Shooting out my palm, I blow the fire out with a quick gulf of wind. The root still swinging around, I grab it and start rubbing my hand against it.

"Easy there buddy," I whisper, placing my head against it. "Easy there! I'm not sorry about the fire but then again, are you sorry about busting through my floor? You know I'm the one that had to fix that one. Just ease up and go back."

The root calling me a few names at first agrees and slowly sinks back into the floor.

"Poison Ivy," I yell, turning to face the hallway. "Get in here now or after I pull on your hair."

Walking in now, Ivy stomps her foot against the ground as she looks at me.

"Tell me how you did that," she demands, pointing at the hole. "Only I can control Mother nature."

"I simply ask," I reply, "And despite calling me a few names, the root did as I ask."

"You can talk with trees," Cold asks, lending out from behind Kara.

"Trees, flowers, even grass," I answer. "Basically, anything that will grow out of the dirt."

"Excuse me," Ivy says, snapping her fingers inches from my ear. Grabbing her wrist, I turn to face her.

"Knock that off," I say, pushing her hand back.

Stumbling back, she regains her footings and walks back to me. About to scream something, pointing a finger at me and opening her mouth, I cut her off.

"Wait a second," I say, shooting out my palm and stopping Ivy.

"How did you get out?"

Thinking back to my last encounter with Ivy, I roll my eyes.

"The Japanese Bonsai Tree," I answer, hitting myself in the face. "It's small enough to crawl beneath the door and open it for you. Darn. People are right. Being kind always bites you in the butt."

"Excuse me," Ivy screams, grabbing my attention but thankfully, without snapping fingers. "But Project Bountiful! Saving the trees and flowers and the rest of the wildlife! I want to help stop it!"

"Project Bountiful," Flash repeats, "Wait, what does that sound familiar?"

"It's one of Superman's secret projects going on at the moment. He's been strip-mining forests and mountains for some time now, collecting as many minerals as he can get. For what exactly, I don't know. Anyway, sorry Ivy but we have other issues at the moment. Firestorm and Blue Beetle have just been kidnapped and we need to go and rescue them."

"They can wait," Ivy replies, "Mother Nature cannot. She needs our help. Now!"

"So do Thing 1 and 2, and if we don't rescue them first, Thing 1 and 2 will be trying to kill the rest of us."

"Why don't we just split up," Selina yells from behind. "Half of us go rescue Firestorm and Blue Beetle, the other half go and do whatever it is Ivy wants."

"What Ivy 'wants' is to infiltrate Wayne Tower in order to get security codes."

"Infiltrate Wayne Tower," everyone repeats.

"Are you kidding," Cold asks. "And here I thought your plan to infiltrate New Metropolis was insane!"

"Wayne Tower isn't as heavily guarded as New Metropolis," I start, "New Metropolis is the military headquarters for Superman's One Earth Government, but Wayne Tower is his network of information. There's more data there in that one place than there is any else in the whole wide world."

"You're leaving out all the guards and security traps," Cold adds, raising his hand. "It's not as heavily guarded as New Metropolis but it is still heavily guarded. There are One Earth soldiers everywhere and a dangerous security system. Not as dangerous or as insane as yours but still."

"There are cameras everywhere," Selina says, "Even in the vents, and the second one of them sees you, all a soldier has to do is push a button and I guarantee, Superman will drop in the sky himself with even more soldiers."

"What are you going to do," Ivy asks, crossing her arms. "Choose to save two kids or choose to save Mother Nature?"

"We can't leave Jason, Stein, or Jaime," Flash yells, "You said it yourself. They're our heavy hitters! If we lose them, then we lose some major firepower!"

In Jason's and Stein's case, we'll be literally losing 'fire'-power," I say, turning to look at the screen. Already far from the cameras of Gotham City, the yellow lanterns nothing more than tiny dots, I turn back to face everyone.

"I will surely and without a doubt regret this," I say, "But here's the plan. For the moment. Kara, I, Flash, Oliver, and Dinah will go and rescue Jason, Stein, and Jaime. Meanwhile, Cold, you and the rest of the 'ladies' will go to Wayne Tower. Have fun."

"What the hell is wrong with you," Cold asks.

"A lot of things," I answer, snapping my screens and making them vanish. "By the way, don't swear."

I still owe all of you one additional chapter for missing last week so here it is. Thank you very much, I do hope you enjoy it, and please do leave a comment. They're the best part of my day.
