"You are now 12 weeks pregnant." The technician replies. "The baby is the size of a lime. The length is 2 1/4, and the weight is 1/2 ounce, and here is the baby's heartbeat. It looks to be strong." The technician smiles as she rubs the cold lubrication jelly on my stomach. Lucas from behind kisses me on my head. The technician proceeds to print out three photos. She wipes the jelly off my belly, and I pull down my shirt and get up from the table. We left the building with Lucas holding my hand and walking me to his car. He opens the door for me, and I sit down. He always treats me like a princess. On the way home, I got a gift for my grandma to surprise her. I got her a mug that says, "Promoted to great-grandma." with a cute little flower underneath.
There isn't much of a difference to my stomach. I look bloated from a thanksgiving dinner. I hardly have told anyone I am pregnant. I wanted to get information on our precious kiddo first, so when people ask questions, I can answer them. I arrive home with Lucas to seeing my grandma playing Dominoes with my mom at the dinner table. I put the gift bag behind me. I had already got the gift wrapped and with tissue paper poking out of the top.
"Hey grams, I got you a little something," I say, smiling.
I know she will be thrilled that I have a baby on the way. She will be even happy that Lucas is the father. She adores him and his adorable cheeks.
"You did?" She says surprisedly. "Hand that over!" She says, having her hands out to reach.
I look over to my mom, and she and I grin at each other. I pass her the bag, and she begins taking out the white glittery tissue paper. She grabs her glasses that hang around her neck and begins to read the cup.
She gasps in shock. "Oh my god! You're pregnant?" She says, looking at my belly.
I excitedly giggle and nod my head. "Yes," I say, smiling.
She sets down the mug. "Let me see your belly!"
I walk closer to her and lift my shirt over my belly button. Her cold hand touches my warm skin.
"I can't believe this... I can't wait to meet this pumpkin. How many weeks are you?"
"12 weeks. I got my ultrasound not long ago." I say, pulling out the three photos. I hand her the black and white sheet.
She places her hand on her face. "Oh my... such a beautiful little thing."
I pull down my shirt, and I look over at my mom. "Her reaction is better than yours," I say, laughing. I look back at grams. "Dad and mom were about to tip over."
"You know I had a feeling this was going to happen soon." She says, winking at me.
I make a weird face. Lucas pulls me in and kisses me on the forehead.
"Let me take a look at those." My mom says, reaching for the photos on the table.
I slide them over to her.
Gram gets up and hugs Lucas. "Congratulations to you two!" She releases Lucas and leans over, kissing me on the cheek. "Let's go out and celebrate! Dinner and dessert on me!"
"Can I choose?"
"Sure, dear. What's on your mind?"
"Mongolian Grill"
"Haven't been there in years! When should we go?" My grandma says, looking at my mom.My mom checks the time on her phone. "It's still a little early. Should we go for lunch and dinner?
"Yeah, that's fine." My gram turns to Lucas and me. "Is that okay, kiddos?"
"As long as I get fed, then yes."
Lucas nods his head.
"Let me go get pampered up, and then we can go soon."
"I will do the same." My grandma says, heading to the bathroom.
I rotate towards Lucas and gripped onto him. "I guess it's just us."
"I'm in the mood."
My 5'5 foot ass looks up to the 5'10 footman. "When are you not."
"Are you saying cuddles are a bad thing?"
I smack my face. "Haha, no. Let's go to the couch."
He walks me over. "You thought something different, huh?"
"No..." I say, grinning to myself.
"Horny little mind. I just wanted to cuddle our daughter or son and their outstanding mother."
I kiss him on the cheek. "It's the hormones."
He sits behind me. "I know, baby. I was just messing with you."
"Though... It would be nice." I say, grinning to myself.
He messages my back. "Maybe later, sugar."
"You two ready?" My mom walks in.
"Yeah," I say, getting up. "That was quick."
"We didn't have to do much. We are already beautiful." My grandma implies.
Lucas smiles. "Got that right, ladies."
"You chose a good man." My gram smiles at me. "Now, let's go! This old lady is starving."
We head to the nearest Mongolian Grill. We got seated by a young sweet lady. She already gave us our drinks and took our order. She is coming back to give us our bowls. She sets four bowls down on the table.
"Waitress, It's her birthday today. Can she get one of those aluminum foil hats?" Lucas states to her.
"Of course! I will be right back with it." She says, stepping away.
"Great, thank you." He replies.
I playfully shove Lucas. "Why! They are now going to do that big announcement." I say, whining.
He brings me close to his body and kisses me on the cheek. "You will be okay."
"And you lieddd."
"Do you think I care?" He says, chuckling. "Someone at least does it in their lifetime."
"At least there will be free dessert," I say, smiling.
"That's the spirit!"
The lady comes back with the hat. Lucas takes it from her, and he places it on my head.
He smiles. "Beautiful." He takes out his phone. "Say cheese!"
I gave him that look but then went along with it. "Cheese!"
"Do you guys want tortillas and rice?"
"Yes, we do, but can you make the rice fried?" My grandma addresses to the women.
"Of course." She says, jotting it down. "I will be back soon." She replies.
We slid out of the red booth and took our bowls to the first stand. I plan to fill my bowl to the top like I always do. I get to the vegetable area, and I spread around water chestnuts, broccoli, and what I believe to be tiny corn on the cob pieces. I go up to the cooking zone, where I can observe my food getting cooked. I stand by my spot until the cook takes my bowl. Lucas is two spots over to the right, and my grandma and my mom are in the line waiting. I later realized I forgot my sauces, so I quickly went to go pour them into a small cup, and I hurried back. I always skip one of the best parts. Our cooked food got done at the same time, and we are now heading back to our seats, waiting for the two ladies. He jabs his fork onto my plate, stealing a piece of steak.
I slap his hand. "Bad boy. No."
He forms a frowning face. I finesse his fork, and I steal off of his plate, stealing some type of unknown meat. He gives me the look whenever I steal his food.
"That's lamb." He says, laughing.
I quickly spit it out on the table. "Why didn't you say anything before?"
"I thought our son or daughter would have loved it."
I stare at him with my regular stares. I then reach for my ice tea, and I took a sip, almost finishing my glass. My mom and gram eventually show up with their steaming plates. My mom grabs the cheese that is on the table and sprinkles it all over her dish. My grandma opens the lid to grab a flour tortilla. Our waitress comes by, ready to announce the announcement.
"I have a quick question."
"Sure! What can I do for you?"
"Can you not do that birthday announcement? I don't like the attention that will be placed on me."
"Of course, dear," she says, smiling. She skims the table. "Would you like a refill?"
"Yes, please," I say, handing her my cup.
As soon as she left, Lucas looks over at me in shock and sadness.
"Why did you do that?"
"I don't know... I just wanted to eat. I don't want the attention."
"Wearing that hat gives you that." He says, laughing.
I take it off and set it next to me.
"Nooo."
"Eat your food, or I will," I say, grinning.
He makes a plain face and then goes back to his food.
We completed our meal by talking about the baby, work, and dad. My mom texted my father to see if he could come, but he was still stuck at work. My mom got out early and was able to go out with us. That's why my grams came over and for me to surprise her. When the waitress noticed we are all done, she came by with my dessert, a brownie with a scoop of ice cream on top, and the check. I already felt full as it was, so I shared with Lucas. My mom and gram ordered their own desserts.
We decided to go to the mall near our house to get a few things for the house and for ourselves. I went to Bath & Body Works to get more lotion and perfume, mom wanted more candles, and Lucas got three new shirts. He gave me the one long one he picked out specifically for me to sleep in.
We arrive home I am still stuffed, and so is the baby. Lucas and I get ready to wind down for the night. I get into my sleepwear, and I took my book off my desk on the way to my bed. I loosen the covers, and I slide in, plopping myself up with a pillow behind me. Lucas made the bed this morning. He heads to the bathroom to take a shower. When he finished, he opens the bathroom door, and the steam escapes out. He walks over in his boxers and his clothes in his hand. He throws most of them in the corner of my room.
He steps on the other side of the bed and pulls the covers down so he can sneak in. Before he does, he holds up his pants, pulling out his wallet. He sets his belonging on the nightstand. "I have got some news about my parents."
I set my book down, and I take off my black reading glasses. "And what's that?" I say, giving him my full attention.
"When you're roughly around 18 to 21 weeks to find out the gender, my parents will fly out here to meet you, and we will tell them about the baby."
I get a heatwave pass through me. "What if they don't approve of me?"
He brings me close to him. I lay against him on my back, looking up at my ceiling with his hands tangled with mine.
"They will adore you, baby, and our baby." He says, fiddling with my fingers.
"I hope so," I say, leaning over onto his stomach and snuggling up to him.
