Two Sides of a Coin (1/2)

"Are you two ready?" Leaf asked the two trainers as they prepared themselves for a battle, a battle that might be their last battle together. They were in an open court, mainly Pallet City's open court.

Leaf was the referee of the two's match while the professor and the Pokemon champion watches the entire thing unfold. On the left side, there was Ren with her best friend, Gengar, and on the other side were Yoake and Claudine. One will use Mega Evolution while the other will use Battle Bond, respectively.

"You said that battle bond can only be activated by someone who has the rare blood type called 'K', right?" Karen asked the professor as she wants confirmation from what she heard earlier.

"Indeed, I still don't know why or how the Katsuragis are the only people to have access to battle bond." The professor stated as he touches his chin and begins to think about the countless reasons why Yoake's family has it.

"If you want answers from Trevor, I highly doubt that he would tell. He's a very secretive man, after that incident. I'm not sure if his wife and children might know why." Karen interrupted the professor from his thoughts.

"But isn't Yoake's grandfather the owner of a large enterprise in Unova? He might know the answer." The professor guessed.

"Don't get your hopes up, old man. We barely know anything about battle bond, only its legacy. If there is something dangerous about it, it's better to keep it a secret. Who knows what immense power Battle Bond would do to humanity."

"Do you think Yoake can be trusted to have this ability?"

"I'm not sure. But all I know is that the kid only wants one thing, to become a Pokemon world champion. He's pretty deterministic, my only worries if he gets woos by power-hungry groups who will try to use his biggest weaknesses to use his power for worse, and I'm not even sure what are his biggest weaknesses are." Karen said in a serious and monotonal voice. She was worried about the kid.

"So, is everyone finally ready?" Leaf asked the two trainers after preparing and waiting for the start of the battle.

'Gengar, are you ready?' Ren whispered as she asks her partner, Gengar, the Shadow Pokemon if he was ready for the battle against a Pokemon that has access to an ability that no one has ever seen before. The Pokemon nodded, he grinned as he slowly forms his body and descends from the sky to the ground, having a menacing stare towards Yoake and Claudine.

"Is it just me or is Gengar is more confident than usual?" Claudine muttered as she felts a huge courageous boost of bravery echoing through Gengar's mind,

'Doesn't matter, He's still the same old rascal. Grinning and Licking like the Gastly he used to be…' Gardevoir said in her thoughts.

"We're Ready!" Yoake and Claudine synchronously said.

"Battle Set! On the left side is Ren with Gengar, and on the right is Yoake with Claudine. Battle Commence!"

"Gengar, use Shadow Ball", "Claudine, use Psychic!"

Gengar quickly formed an orb from the shadows of the nearby objects, concentrating it into an energy that can overwhelm someone in fear. He levitated from the ground and dashed towards Claudine, allowing him to attack first.

Claudine's eyes glow in ominous red, she spread her arms as she slowly focuses the psychokinetic energy on the palm of her hand, storing every bit of energy surrounding her and cd cluster it in this purplish ball.

As Gengar was about to throw his Shadow Ball, he disappears with purple haze dazzling through the place he used to be before dispersing in midair. Everyone, excluding Ren, was surprised by this would give Gengar a more 'advantageous' point in the battle since this was very unpredictable.

"Claudine, stay focused, try to guess where he could appear," Yoake assured his Pokemon.

Claudine, while still holding the purplish orb in her hand, looks around and patiently tries to think about where could Gengar be. With every millisecond passing by, the scene slowly grips into intensity as the two, Yoake and Claudine, are trying their best to counterattack.

"He is known as Kanto's first and only Ghost-type, fast, menacing, has a sense of humor, and if pair with a trainer, smart. Gengar is a proud menace many years ago." Karen said as she observes the battle, telling every detail she knows about Gengar.

"Agreed. Rumored that it's a formerly dead person, but over time, it was debunked since there are more Gastly births than dead people throughout the years." Professor Oakido stated.

"Well, typical ghost rumors, what can you expect from the people of Kanto and Johto pre-modernization?" Karen said in a sarcastic note.

Claudine looks around as she tries to find Gengar but to no avail. Yoake clenched his fist as he tries to stay focused on this unpredictable battle. Ren, seeing the frustration between her rival and his Pokemon, smirked as she knows that this was planned all along and it was her signature move against Kanto's Specialists.

"Gengar, now!" Ren said as Gengar immediately appears behind Claudine and threw the Shadow Ball with no hesitation, she tries to dodge it but the Gengar was too fast, the ball hits her left foot, throwing her off to the sides. Gengar laughed in mockery as he sees Claudine laying down on the floor after getting hit by his Shadow ball. She growled in anger as she hears the annoying giggle from the Ghost-type. In a spite of revenge, she teleported at a safe distance and threw her Psychic orb to Gengar.

Anger was slowly brewing through Claudine's head, which would pass on to Yoake by a weird entanglement. Ren quickie decided to use her final blow against the two.

"Gengar, Shadow Ball once more!", "Claudine, Psychic!"

Gengar disappears once more and this sparked the two to once again, guess where could Gengar be.

'Where is he?' Claudine thought as she was agitated from this strategy, it was like trying to find an electron in a hydrogen atom, you know that there's only one but you can't find its exact position, and instead, having a cloud of possibility on where could the electron be.

This is repeated as Gengar pops in and immediately disappears after throwing a Shadow Ball to Claudine. She was frustrated, to say the least.

This was too complex for Claudine, causing her to frustrate even more. She tries to prepare herself by forming another psychokinetic ball on her hand but not knowing where the enemy could be, is something she is frightened of.

It didn't take long enough for Gengar to appear once more and everyone was shocked as soon as they saw the Pokemon, levitating in the air with a sinister look towards Claudine.

"What the hell?" Yoake ushered as he saw a ring of Shadow Balls hovering in the air pointing towards Claudine.

"Yoake, Claudine, I present to you, Raining Doom. We've been training and improving this for weeks now, and this is our final blow to any opponents." Ren told the two.

"So this is your strongest move…" Yoake whispered as he realized how dangerous and powerful this movie is.

'Not only getting hit by Shadow Ball was enough to destroy Claudine but a bombardment is something far scarier than I could think off.' Yoake said in his thoughts as fear was about to mix the angered spices in the bowl of emotions between the two.

'This is both frightening and majestic to see at the same time, Ren is a very tough opponent. I'm looking forward to her to battle in the league.' Karen thought as she said her opinion about the white trainer.

"Anomaly detected, signs of Battle Bond are being identified." A rotom appeared from Leaf's phone as it alerts everyone of the possibility of Battle Bond appearing.

"It's happening? That fast?" Oakido said in a surprised tone. Karen prepares herself as she was about to see something from legends, a myth about Pokemon and Humans as a single entity from Sinnoh.

"Claudine, dodge it as fast as you can."

Claudine nodded as she sees some spaces that would allow her to escape a possible bombardment. She quickly jumped and began finding the spaces that would protect her, Ren clenched her fist as she quickly pulls out a Mega stone and started the process of Mega Evolution after hearing the alert from Rotom.

"Do it now Gengar!" Ren shouted. Gengar giggled as he releases all of the floating Shadow Balls and launches all of them towards Claudine.

The Gardevoir turns around as she sees the orbs being thrown at her at full speed, she tries to dodge most of them but there are some that manage to hit her leg, arm, and dress. She was thrown to the ground after getting struck by the bombardment.

"Claudine, are you alright?" Yoake said in a worried tone as he saw Claudine fall to the ground, badly injured as the battle rages on.

"Yeah, I'm….. fine," Claudine assured the trainer as she slowly rises from the ground and tried to stand properly but she was wobbling. She is slowly losing her balance.

"Huh. why isn't Battle bond working?" Leaf asked Rotom.

"I just alerted a possibility, it might not happen or it might, the signs are there but the certainty is not yet sure," Rotom explained.

"What!?" Leaf gasped as she saw Claudine tumbling to the ground as Gengar continues to throw a bombardment on the Gardeoir. She wants to intervene but she can't.

"Yoake, call for a forfeit!" Leaf shouted to the trainer as Claudine was about to faint in battle.

Yoake realizes how underpowered Claudine is, they both trained around the clock but she's still weak. He was planning to call for defeat as he sees how stronger Ren is.

"NO! Don't!" Claudine begged the two as she tries to assure everyone that she was fine.

She looks at Gengar and saw a small glimpse of Ren grinning at her, it was so sudden yet shocking. She felt something familiar to Gengar's grin, she couldn't tell what it was but there's familiarity.

"Yoake, give me a Full Restore." Claudine told her trainer as she wants to continue this battle.

Yoake nodded and immediately grabbed a Full Restore in his bag and tosses it to Claudine. She caught it, removes the cap, and began drinking it as she recovers from the pain of the bombardment. After drinking, she threw the bottle and wiped her mouth as she continues the battle.

"Alright, let's settle this," Claudine said as her eyes begins to glow.

There was a slow connection brewing in the two as fate's string is being tied. The soul and the mind of the two are forming a bond as the battle continues.

"Battle Bond Detected!" Rotom shouted as the signs were there, it was getting clear that Ren should quickly use her Mega Stone as a form of response.
