The moment he left the room with me in his arms we entered a hallway. However, what caught my attention was the fact that the hallway was made purely out of glass. I looked down only to see what the Zakarian was walking on and it looked like one of those glass bridges people made for tourist attractions. When you look down you could see yourself falling to your death.
The thought made me nervous.
As he walked I could see the great expanse of snowy mountains with a night sky so clear that almost every star was visible to my human eye.
I looked at the sky stunned.
I felt the Zakerian's eyes on me so I try to feign indifference. I do not want him to think that I'm enjoying the view.
He realized what I was doing and to humor me he stopped walking and took me towards the edge of the glass. It opened and a breeze so cold hit me right in the face and I knew I would have frozen into an ice cube within a second if not for the alien holding me. His body projected heat like a furnace making sure I won't freeze to my death.
"Where are we?" I ask nervously looking down. I can see the sea and sheets of Ice floating beneath me. whatever this place was it was floating in midair.
"Mortals call it the north pole. This is my stronghold. I usually don't like your kind so I prefer to reside here far away from them."
I felt dread wash over me. If he doesn't like our kind then why am I here? I fear what the answer might be.
Yet, I never thought that these conquerors would have their stronghold somewhere so desolate. Oh God. How am I going to leave this place? I'm literally stuck in the coldest place on earth.
"If you don't like us you can take everyone and leave" I grit out.
He throws his head back and laughs. Cradling me closer in the process. I try to not show how anxious I am by being this close to this alien and I try to ignore the pain from my throbbing wound.
"Isn't the sky a beauty? That's what it is like when it is not tainted by your kind. Humans are a disease to this earth."
Just as I was about to retort there was a light that filtered through the glass. My breath hitched. It's the first time I'm seeing it in person.
The sky was shimmering with blue-green light, the colors shifting and changing gently. Softly. like silk in the wind. The northern lights.
"Do you know what that is?" He asks as if I'm a child.
I nod and then after a second thought, I whisper to him. Unsure.
"I was named after it."
I'm not sure if I wanted him to know my name. Although it was better than being called 'earthling' or 'mortal.'
"Aurora," he says with a smile and my name sounds like velvet on his tongue. I was mortified by the blush that crept up on me and surprised at how he knew of the terms we used for the northern lights.
It seemed like he took a great deal to learn about us. Which is terrifying because it looks like he didn't like what he learnt.
I looked down and wondered if I should just jump and escape whatever fate awaits me in his hands.
He quickly stepped away from the glass observing my face. With a sort of cruel smile, he kept walking.
"Come Aurora. There is much to be done."
I shuddered uncomfortably at those words.
We entered another room and there was a giant pool in the middle. The water was as clear as the glass hallway.
I was set down on my feet and I immediately scrambled away. Trying to keep as much distance as possible.
Then I started to freeze. My nakedness does not help me in the slightest.
Giving me one of his cruel smiles he spoke. "The room you woke up in is the only one in this facility that was heated. You must stay by my side and not stray away. If not you will be hypothermic within an hour."
I glared at him. I'd rather freeze to death than be near him. I entertain the idea but then I realize that is such a selfish thought. I must help Lucy first. I must survive.
I watch him submerge himself in water as my teeth start to clatter. My wound is starting to feel numb.
he looks at me expectantly.
Cursing under my breath I get in afterward. The water was shockingly cold.
I looked up and he sat on the ledge of the pool. His expression read 'come to me if you wish to live.'
This was a form of humiliation. I just knew it. It's to show how he has power over me.
It is for Lucy I kept saying to myself as I swam towards him. Ignoring the pain in my arm.
Once I'm close I could feel his heat and I started to relax unconsciously.
He grabs my hand and pulls me close to him. My chest against his. Then he takes my legs and wraps them around his waist. Mortified, I tried to struggle.
"What!-
"Shhh" He cuts me off with his other hand on my mouth. I glare at him furiously.
"Your struggles only make this more fun for me."
I feel his muscles ripple beneath my skin and I feel something else press against my thigh. My face becomes red with pure embarrassment.
"Relax. These waters are meant to heal you."
I haven't forgotten that he was the reason I'm injured in the first place.
but to my chagrin, my body starts to relax and everything feels heavy.
I lay my cheek against his collar bone as I'm gently rocked in the clear warm water. My mind was on the northern lights as I fell asleep from exhaustion.
