OLD ACQUAINTANCE

Some time ago, approximately around a year ago.

The time when the mysterious killing at District 12 had just begun.

"Yes, Mrs. Perez, we do understand where you are coming from. But you should also know by now that our school could not keep its eye on every single student at our university, just because they decided to drop the subject or started not to show up in the middle of the semester. But rest assured that we will definitely contact you as soon as we heard from him."

Santina was currently talking to someone over the phone while she was alternately massaging her temple and glabella.

After the person on the other end of the line hung up, she threw her back on her swivel chair and closed her eyes to calm herself.

The professor was just about to resign herself on finally having a good rest when she heard someone knocking on her door.

"Another student, I suppose."

She said to herself before she exhaled deeply and opened her eyes again

When she looked to see who had come knocking on her office, she saw someone standing just outside the door.

The other party was relatively tall. Enough for his entire figure to block the doorway as well as the light from the hallway outside and so the only thing that Santina could see from him was the silhouette his bulky figure

Santina waited for the visitor to come but the other party also did not seem to have any intention of coming inside at all.

On the contrary, it only continued to look at her, as though it was waiting for her to be actually the one to go and approached instead.

"Yes???"

Santina stood up and asked.

"Professor."

A man with a deep and masculine voice replied. But the man did not make a move to enter the office. It remained motionless at the entrance just like before.

"May I help you?"

Santina asked back and hearing her response, the man shifted a little on his position which allowed Santina to see part of the other party's expression but it was still not enough yet for her to recognize him.

Meanwhile, the same man at the doorway tilted his head a little on one side and squinted his eyes. He was sporting a quizzical expression on his face as though he was trying to read Santina's expression whether she really meant her words about asking how she could help him.

"May we go for a walk, Professor? It is a nice day for a walk."

The man stepped further back into the corridor and this allowed a shed of light from one of the fluorescent lamps on the ceilings on the hallway to shine upon him.

With that, Santina had managed to finally able to see who the other party was and recognition dawned on her pretty face as soon as she saw him clearly.

He had smooth, dry skin with small freckles sprinkled about like confetti on both side of his cheeks. His eyebrows were also curved into swooping arches over his eyes and his small button like nose completed his wide forehead and blunt chin.

These features might never be enough to turn one's head, or make anyone look twice; they were normal, plain even.

But his eyes were like the stars, the way they drew you in to explore the swirling emotion held in their depths. The black of his pupil was surrounded by a ring of jagged silver fire swallowed by sapphire blue.

At one glance his eyes merely shone, but if you dared to look closer you could clearly see the sadness of heartbreak, the joy of love, the hope of the future, the pain of sorrow, and the fire of a spirit that would never give up.

Santina could observe as much of that from the other party not because of any romantic reason, but it was just that they use to be closed friends before.

In fact, if she may dare say, she somewhat missed him. It's been a while since they have last seen each other

Of course, she personally knew who the other party was.

It was Mikael Putrivitch.

They have known each other for years not just only because they came from the same high school

But also because they used to work at the same station before, back when she was still in charge of forensic and while the party was still working as a law enforcement officer

But after Mikael went AWOL and decided to go into seminary and devote his life in God's words instead, six years ago, they had never contacted each other ever again.

So Santina was not sure what kind of wind had brought Mikael to made an untimely visit to her office.
