"Excuse me?" She was flabbergasted. What kind of question was that? Who would ask a woman why she dressed the way she was? Besides, what was with the frown of disgust? Did he think she didn't look good enough?
"Never mind." He waved his hands. "Do you know why I called you here?"
Alexa remained silent. She had figured out that she had misunderstood his intention for calling her. Not wanting to keep making a fool out of herself, she shrugged.
"I called you here to tell you to know your place." His expression turned threatening. "You are—were—a member of my team and your worth has long been depleted. You would be better off six feet underground if Shera didn't pick you, but I don't mind correcting that if you force me to."
He closed in on the woman whose face had paled in disbelief "So, Alexa Wener, you better know your place and stick there."
He brushed past her to leave.
"Why?" Alexa grabbed his sleeve before she could stop herself.
