Too understanding

He inched closer to her ear in a threatening manner. "Don't do anything regrettable, or else you won't even know how you died." With that, he spun on his heel and went to his room.

Her knees gave way and she slumped to the ground with a thud.

"Mommy?" Little Jia's room wasn't completely closed. She didn't pay attention to their discussion but she was sure her father had scolded her mommy before storming to his room and banging the door shut.

Her heart ached when she saw her mother hugging her knees and trying to fight back her tears.

She looked in the direction of her father's room with a sad expression for a while before she changed her mind and went to her mother instead.

"Did he bully you?" she asked in a coaxing voice as she patted Wan Jia's forehead in consolation.

"He didn't, mommy is just a little tired and decided to sit down for a while." she forced a smile while playing with her baby's long pigtails.

The little girl looked at her pitifully. "Mommy, little Jia knows mommy has been bullied." she said miserably as she tried to think of ways to comfort her.

"Mommy, little Jia has two new dolls. Let's go and play." she said as she pulled onto Wan Jia's arm.

She stood up and let her daughter drag her into her playroom. It wouldn't look too nice if she lost control of her emotions and cried in front of her daughter.

However, neither the mother nor the daughter was really playing, they got distracted into their own separate thoughts.

Little Jia thought about the pink lacy princess dress she had mentally decided to wear to the theme park.

She had urged her father to buy her that dress after seeing Wan Jia wearing a body hugging pink dress of the same color. They looked just like parent-child outfits.

When she heard that they were going out together, she hoped to wear this dress together with her mommy. Besides, it was the first time they were going out together.

"Daddy doesn't want us to go to the theme park?" she couldn't restrain herself from asking in the end.

Wan Jia kissed her forehead, not knowing just how to break the news to her. " Let's go downstairs for breakfast, okay? I'll go try to convince him."

"Yes Mommy." she let Wan Jia lead her to the dining table. The chef had already finished preparing breakfast. "Mommy, if Daddy doesn't agree, Little Jia understands, maybe Daddy has a good reason. " she smiled. Wan Jia smiled back. This little girl was too understanding for her age. Other three year olds would have cried their lungs out by now.

Wan Jia walked nervously to his door and hesitated. Would he lose his temper on her again if he sees her?

Inside the room, Lu Aotian was on a phone call with his brother.

"I just don't understand her thought process at all. I haven't ever thought of separating them. Why does she still want to do this?" Lu Aotian was basically complaining. His mood was terrible.

"Well, women are unfathomable for the most part. But, brother, you can't rule out the possibility that she genuinely wanted to be with you."

"If she has ever been genuine, that is."

.....

The door was soundproof hence Wan Jia didn't know that he was on phone. She knocked lightly and tried to push the door open.

She waited for a few seconds before it was opened from the inside and an inhumanely gloomy Lu Aotian appeared.

"What do you want?" his expression didn't change much when he saw who it was.

"May I come in?" she asked although she was almost entirely sure she was going to be sent away.

To her surprise, he stood aside to let her in and locked the door. "What do you want?" he asked monotonously.

"Breakfast is ready."

"You could have asked the butler to call me. Why did you come here yourself?"

Wan Jia almost broke down from the cold aura emanating from his face and his chilling voice. Had she been transported to the north pole?

"Well,..." she didn't know where to begin.

"Go straight to the point." he didn't even spare her a glance and looked like she was wasting so much of his time.

She took a deep breath "I already promised not to try anything funny, I wouldn't even dare. I only wanted to have some fun. Besides..."

"Besides what?"

"I really want to be with my baby forever, but if I took her away, then wouldn't I have left you behind? My heart would hurt."

It wasn't clear to him whether she meant her heart would hurt because she would feel pity for him or because she would miss him. He gave her a questioning look."

"I meant it when I said that I love you." she finished it off in one breath.

The man finally had a change in expression. "If that's the case then why did you not say it earlier?"

"I didn't want to be a burden to you." she replied honestly.

"I see...then why did you change your mind?"

"Well, I realised if I don't own it up and am too late I will lose you...." she looked down "You were beginning to lose interest in me."

He raised an eyebrow. Beginning to lose interest? How did she come to such a crazy conclusion?

"Erm, the last time you brought such a huge gift for Little Jia and forgot about me, isn't that a sign of losing interest?"
