Death’s Burnished Bling

Dusts and ashes

With many years they come from,

The once older man who stayed

Till death had them parted,

By their last breath

It went four glorious times,

To the blood on a stick

That promised the holy grail, refined.

During the golden days

He was drafted for aircraft,

Fresh for the taking

Like all the young ones before him,

Who did all they could,

To let their families sing,

To the many generations

Legacies are birthed, we reign.

Aunt Paula

Aunt Janice

To my father

Joseph

They carve his name;

Death's

Burnished

Bling.

We sigh.

We sniffle.

We smile.

To know he was worth while.

To write this forsaken poem,

Since it's been three years or more,

Last time she saw him,

All she can grasps

Is the faintest of smells,

A musky old man

Who had brown eyes that swirled.

*

Silver thinning tresses

Sporting mustaches,

The Italian masquerade

Enriching it's enthralling history,

Upon Florida's gleam

But within the New York scenery,

He drew his castle,

What his hands may dream.

For you, Grandpa.
