Forget Me

"Mr. Zhang's daughter, why are you zoning out?" Yu Yan asked worriedly. "Are you sure you're okay?"

Yi Fei did a slight nod, faintly gripping onto the small plastic cup. She felt restrained, she couldn't hold onto her fingers nor her backpack which were usually her ways of supporting herself to stay still. Yi Fei could only uncomfortably purse her lips a bit as her fingers slightly twitched.

Yu Yan gave an uneasy expression, before trying to smoothly switch the topic.

"Hey... You're not Mr. Zhang's daughter, right?" Yu Yan teased. "I was convinced you were her, and you never corrected me!"

Suddenly, Yi Fei found herself to blame.

"Why didn't you correct me?" Yu Yan grinned, seeing that her provocative words were working. "I had to be scolded by Secretary Lim because she thought I was lying about you~"

Yi Fei's eyes awkwardly shifted to the left to avoid eye contact before muttering, "Sorry..."

Obviously, Yi Fei couldn't take a joke.

Yu Yan even sweated a little because of Yi Fei's lack of cooperation. She had never encountered such tactlessness.

"So... your real name is Yi Fei, right?" Yu Yan acted as if she paid it no mind. "I've heard it from Secretary Lim that you're starting your training today! And guess what?"

Yu Yan didn't even paused for a second for a "what?" because she had already grasped Yi Fei's temperament.

"I'm your trainee partner!" Yu Yan cheerfully said, lightly pulling on Yi Fei's arm.

Ironically, this was where Yi Fei replied, "What?"

"I'm like your mentor, but better," Yu Yan explained. "I guide you in training for three months, and we'll be doing most things together!"

"Oh..." Yi Fei muttered.

Was she happy about this? Was she sad? Yi Fei didn't understand, her mind felt blank. Empty. Soulless.

Before, Yi Fei felt delighted. That she could go to this company. That she could meet Yu Yan again. That she might get a friend.

But now...

"Let's go! Dance is starting soon and our dance teacher doesn't like us being late!" Yu Yan happily exclaimed as she pulled Yi Fei along with her lukewarm hand.

--Meanwhile

"Hey, you're zoning out again," An Rong slapped Yi Fan's back. "You sure you're okay?"

Yi Fan was at baseball practice with a new substitute coach. They were doing 5 kilometers run as it was their daily warm-up, and the baseball members would start joking around and chat while Coach wasn't watching them. In contrast, the substitute coach didn't care much and was only doing the list of tasks the club manager had given him.

Yi Fan mildly smiled despite the slap, and replied, "Yeah. Just thinking."

"Thinking? You?" An Rong laughed. "Even if you were, it wouldn't be about anything important."

If An Rong wasn't his best friend, Yi Fan would've chocked him to death by now.

"Hey! I got an 85 on our last test," Yi Fan grumbled, wiping his forehead with the towel around his neck. "I'm not that dumb."

"Mind you, that was a pretty easy test. I got a 97 on it," An Rong chuckled. "To be honest, you're lucky you're good at baseball or else you wouldn't get into college."

Yi Fan rolled his eyes in annoyance. He was thinking about something important. That's right. He was thinking about last night. And his sister.

How was her day? What did she do? Did she make any friends? Yi Fan had numerous questions he wanted to ask her but didn't dare to. After all, even if he did, she wouldn't even spare him a glance.

Could she forgive him? If so, when? Soon, now, later? Would she ever forgive him?

His gaze was clouding, an unpleasant frown forming. The back of his throat felt muffled, almost as if he was restricted to speak. Yi Fan knew he could say anything yet couldn't.

"I just want to go back to the old days," Yi Fan wistfully murmured, tightly gripping on the towel. "Before I ruined everything."

"What?" An Rong asked. "Couldn't hear you."

"Nothing," Yi Fan said, abruptly running faster so he could shake An Rong off. But maybe... just maybe...

He just wanted to forget.
