Sheng and Lu AnLing had finished practicing for the day and for the first time since she had begun to come to The Halo Stars Entertainment building regularly, Kang Jun had told her that he was going to pick her up.
Lu AnLing was ecstatic but first, she had to make sure that she sent Sheng away. The man wanted to stay with her until her ride came since it was fairly dark that day and he worried that Lu AnLing would end up recklessly walking home, but Lu AnLing wouldn't allow it.
Lu AnLing: "Sheng! I'm a grown woman. I won't do anything to put myself in danger and besides, I told you my darling is coming to pick me up. So scram."
Hearing this the boy rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I get it. But I'm serious. Be careful. You've always been kind of prone to attracting trouble..."
Lu AnLing rolled her eyes. "That's not true. I just have a little bad luck with bitches... ugh, I mean, women..."
Sheng laughed. "A little? Name me three girls who you're friends with."
Lu AnLing thought about it for a second, but her face immediately darkened. Because of his words, Lu AnLing couldn't help but feel a little hurt. It was true. She didn't have many female friends. The only one she would say for sure was her friend was Lu Xia but since she was her cousin, did that even count? Lu AnLing wasn't sure. Though the reason why she didn't have female friends never seemed to be a fault of her own.
Lu AnLing was always a tomboy, but not only that, she was fun to talk to. She never really held herself back, mostly when it came to talking to boys. Boys. Girls. Her father taught her that the difference between the two genders was marginal and that she chose who she wanted to feel inferior to. This heavily influenced Lu AnLing's character as she was growing up and it made it so that they never had to be careful around her. They could swear, they could fight and do whatever they liked but Lu AnLing never corrected their behaviour or seemed disgusted by it.
The girl had been raised in such environments anyways.
Even when she had become friends with Sheng; they had bonded over music and quickly, they became comfortable with one another. Gender was almost absent from their relationship unless it could be put to use.
Quickly, Lu AnLing began to pout.
Seeing this, Sheng put his hand on his hips and said, "I'm joking bro, don't get too serious. Anyways, I'm leaving. Have fun with your boy toy. Don't do anything I wouldn't do!"
Lu AnLing rolled her eyes and said, "Sis, that's impossible. How can I adhere to virgins ways?"
Hearing this, Sheng turned crimson before he cursed under his breath. Why had he provoked Lu AnLing? This girl knew all his secrets.
Not wanting to lose face, Sheng gave her a look and said, "So what? I'm a virgin and I'm proud of it!"
Then the boy said his goodbyes to Lu AnLing before walking out the door.
When he was gone, Lu AnLing took a seat and began texting Kang Jun. She wanted to see him quickly.
Lu AnLing: [You're done with work yet? I can come to meet you around Kang Corporations if you want.]
Lu AnLing thought it would take a while for Kang Jun to reply but instead, he answered instantly.
King Kang: [I'm finishing up and I'm not at the main branch, but a subsidiary. Wait for me.]
To this, Lu AnLing wasn't sure if she should reply. Since his answer was so stern and direct, she knew that he must have been busy. Though the mere fact that he replied to her was enough. So she decided to let him work, though not before sending him an I love you. Like always, Kang Jun answered quickly.
King Kang: [I love you.]
After reading this, Lu AnLing sat back in her seat, snuggled up in the pink coat Kang Jun had gotten her and looked outside, into the cold darkness of the night. Though there were many lights illuminating the streets and many people walking in whichever direction they pleased.
Watching this, Lu AnLing sighed.
She and Kang Jun had been so busy this week dealing with their own problems that they hadn't seen each other as much as they had wanted to.
While Lu AnLing was working on her song for Trailblazers, Kang Jun was juggling company work and the investigation. Since then, after many days had passed, Mr. Long hadn't found Chong Wei, so Kang Jun also took it upon himself to find the old man but he quickly realized that the task wasn't as simple as he had thought it would be.
Someone was blocking him.
The trail had gone mostly cold but Kang Jun wouldn't allow this. Lu AnLing wanted to help him but she truly had no way to do such a thing. The best thing to do right now was to stay out of his way, at least that was what she believed. Meanwhile, she wanted to rack up a lot of money and status so that when she finally met Kang Jun's parents they wouldn't have a bad impression of her.
Considering her background, Lu AnLing felt as if she wasn't good enough for Kang Jun, mostly in the eyes of his family.
And even though Kang Jun and Elder Kang's love for her opened many doors, she wanted to show she had worth by herself, but not only that, she wanted to prove that she wasn't with Kang Jun for his money.
Lu AnLing had already done a lot of overthinking on the subject and after being hurt and insulted almost her whole life while living with the Lu family, Lu AnLing understood bits and pieces of the higher class. Money meant power and worth. That was the world she was surrounded by...
The thoughts that buzzed in her brain made the girl's head hurt. She didn't like feeling worthless, but the abuse she had suffered during her high school days had stuck to her like an unwashable stain.
Lu AnLing touched the ring on her right hand, then remembering the ring she had gotten on their trip to France, Lu AnLing looked at it lovingly.
It was so simple that no one would notice it, but knowing it was there gave the girl comfort.
In the end, nothing would change the fact that she married Kang Jun or the fact that the man loved her or that they had a child together.
In this world, things were cruel... Turning to look at her other ring, her heart squeezed slightly. She had experienced many of those cruel things, but in the end, she needed to be strong.
Life was a battle but she shouldn't give up.
Looking up, Lu AnLing smiled slightly, but suddenly, a voice said,
"Sister!"
Hearing Lu Shuya call her so disgustingly, Lu AnLing frowned and looked towards the direction of the voice. There, walking through the entrance of the building, Lu AnLing saw Lu Shuya, Xiao Mian and... Grandma Lu?
Looking at them with utter confusion, Lu AnLing's mouth gaped slightly open.
The three made their way towards Lu AnLing and then they took seats around her.
At the corner of her eye, Lu AnLing saw the little receptionist give the group a weird look and Lu AnLing understood why.
Why was a goddess of Halo Stars Entertainment sitting with a new artist who used to be an assistant? Lu AnLing could almost hear the girl saying in her mind.
If she was the girl, she would have thought the same herself. Though, the first thing that Lu AnLing assumes came to the girl's mind was, 'why was an old woman with them?'
And frankly, Lu AnLing wondered the same. What was Grandma Lu doing there?
Coming up to her, the old woman smiled weakly but Lu AnLing gave no reaction, her expression remained confused.
Without any more hesitation, Lu AnLing asked, "What are you doing here?"
Well, it's time for Lu AnLing to confront grandma Lu and maybe even Kang Jun to meet her sometime soon. The next few chapters of this volume (to around halfway probably) will focus more on the Parents/Grandparents/Family; not only in their relations to Kang Jun and Lu AnLing but also parts of the past will be revealed and become like puzzle pieces. Tho in the middle of this, we will have the reunion with some possible face slaps. huhuhu.
