I’ve been reading this novel since its early days and I’m now 600+ chapters in, so this frustration didn’t come out of nowhere. It built up. The way Frey’s romantic stance is handled is honestly exhausting. The story keeps insisting on ambiguity while putting him in situations that are very clearly romantic. we have poetic kisses, emotional intimacy, desire that’s obvious but never acknowledged. You can’t keep doing both and expect readers not to feel misled. Lines like “What right do I have to invalidate their love for me?” feel like deflection. The issue isn’t other characters feelings. The issue is Frey refusing to clearly accept or reject them while still benefiting from that affection. If this is intentional emotional selfishness, then the story should acknowledge it instead of romanticizing it. I didn’t stay this long because I hate the story. One of my top 3 actually. I stayed because I care. But dragging this unclear middle ground for hundreds of chapters isn’t tension anymore, it’s alre adyirritation. If Frey wants someone, say it. If he wants no one, say it. Just be clear. Damn
