I think there's some misinterpretation issues here. Let me clarify then. 1. He's aware who's fond of him, and not dense to it at all, which is why he walked away and kept a distance from Roselyn before she could confess. Because he knows she was starting to like him. 2. I think you're overfixated on romance wayyy too much. He's a grown man who does not need to have 10 paragraphs of an internal monologue just to think "does she like me?" He knows if they like him or not. There's been no implications at all about him being oblivious to someone's feelings. 3. "Did I secure her trust?" Because he knows she's starting to like him lol. I don't know why I need to spell that out. He knows, trust me, and that should be pretty obvious if you stop to think about it. He notices their reactions, and does NOT pursue them. He knows he's going to die, romance is at the bottom of his bucket list. All in all, from your points, what I get here is just the wrong interpretation of his character. Maybe it's my fault for showing rather than telling.
