One think that I always like to see, but rarely do, is a fun story told in first person perspective. And this is a fun story! Told in first person perspective. The MC is a likeabe person, it's very pleasant to spend time in his head. The RPG-inspired system and character stats are really effective at giving the story an appealing, quirky feel. A heady mix of superb world building, vivid characters, pirates, and witchcraft! In the expert hands of this author, the story struts and swaggers along like the most audacious of pirates. The dialogue zings with energy, wit, and personality, and the whole thing is written with an assured lightness of touch. I have a very low tolerance for poor prose, and even less for uncompelling characters, so believe me when I say that this story deserves to be read by anyone who values quality writing. I'll be following this once pretty closely. *Highly* recommend!
