No that’s a grammatical correct way to write the sentence, it’s a juxtaposition. Though I understand the confusion to non native English readers. And It’s shortens “his attack hits me before mine hits him,” removing the second hit as it is not necessary to maintain the meaning

this paragraph doesnt make sense as the old man already told him it was a limestone quarry earlier. to fix it u would need to edit there earlier paragraph and remove it saying it was a lime stone one so that it wasnt told till now
