You don't have to make other characters who never shown anything like this in the canon into caricature of evil to justify the MC's manipulation and actions. I'm not gonna be shocked if the original author suddenly says that the clear sky sect go around killing and r*ping and that they sacrifice babies to become stronger and in fact the most evil clan just so they could be the bad guy and the MC could hold the moral high ground while he torture and massacre them with his poison.
