My guess is last time he had 6 evolution points and he only evolved the wolf as just after he used his points he got the ear awareness and the wolf evolved. so most likely he got confused and forgot to take out the part of him evolving, and only the wolf evolving,

It didn't go away but the requirement changed, the translation got it wrong, it shouldn't be "Next Atavism" but "Next Atavism Requirements"
