They do originate from Alola. You need to start the island challenge to acquire Z-Rings and Z-Crystals. But once acquired, you can use them in other regions. They aren't bound like Power Spots (For Dynamax). Plus in this fanfic, I changed it up a bit where Professors can hand out Z-Rings. Trainers don't need to solely start the island challenge anymore. Finding Z-Crystals will still rely on one's luck. I might have Gyms become Power Spots and such, too.
