After some consideration, I chose several boxes of different spirits from the magazine. It was quite a shame to waste alcohol like that, but I could make some decent ammunition out of them. If I broke the bottles, I could throw the glass shards at the police, breaking the reality laws to add extra momentum, and take out most of them this way. Then I would just eliminate the rest one by one, as they enter the back of the store trying to capture me.
After the sirens stopped, everything became silent. I opened the door slightly to take a peek…
And then I felt it. That unsettling feeling again. But this time, incomparably stronger than ever before.
If I were to guess, all the "police officers" at the scene were not police officers from this world, but actually members of the organization. And there were 10 of them, as far as I could see.
This would be much harder than I expected.
Of course, I could still change my mind and run away by breaking through the walls, but I didn't want to. Why would I give up on the opportunity to take out more of the organization's members? And 10 at once, at that.
I was itching for a fight even more than before. I smiled, excited, as I felt the rush of adrenaline flowing through my veins. It should be fun.
I quickly tore all the doors from their frames and used them, plus the desk from the office, to create a barricade of a sort. I would use it as a cover to defend myself from their bullets while tossing my ammunition at them. This way I could put most of my focus on the offense.
The whole thing took me less than half a minute. Once I was ready, I waved my hand at the shutters. They slowly raised up, making loud creaking noises.
The fighters from the organization were all positioned outside, with their guns pointed at the store, ready to shoot at any moment.
"This is the police!" I could hear one of them announcing through the loudspeaker. "We have the place surrounded! Lay your weapons down and come out with your hands up! I repeat…"
Were they not gonna enter the store? In that case…
I curled my hand into a fist, shattering all the windows and glass door into dust. Not giving them a chance to make the first move, I smashed one of the bottles and send a few large shards at the nearest guy.
They missed the mark slightly, but one of them still managed to cut his throat. Not enough to kill him instantly, but at least wounding him severely. He dropped to his knees, grabbing his throat and choking.
If he was taken care of immediately, he still could have a chance of surviving, although slim. I don't think his artery was badly damaged, judging by the amount of blood sipping through his fingers. Normally, severing the carotid artery would result in massive blood loss and fainting within seconds. He should have been unconscious by now if that was the case.
However, none of his teammates cared enough to help. As soon as he was hit, they started firing at me, stopping only to reload their guns. The guy was left on his own, writhing in pain on the ground, a puddle of blood forming underneath him.
I hid underneath the barricade to avoid being hit by the bullets.
I wasn't an expert when it came to guns, since I've never used them myself. I simply didn't need to. But because of my lack of knowledge, I had no idea how much their attacks were breaking the reality laws, making it difficult for me to judge to what extent I can block or deflect the bullets.
But I couldn't just wait for my barricade to turn into Swiss cheese. I grabbed a handful of glass shards to toss at them. My hand got multiple cuts in the process, but I didn't care. I'll just heal it later.
Lifting my left hand to block the bullets, I quickly peeked out of the barricade and threw the shards.
The guy in whose direction the shards were flying raised a shield, but I was prepared for that. I expected they would have a way to defend themselves. That's why I made sure to send the shards on a curve. Just as they were about to hit the shield, the shards changed direction and hit an unprepared guy nearby.
Of course, doing things that way significantly lowered their momentum. But I put enough force that there were still high chances of landing a critical hit. And I seemed to be successful, as my target fell on the ground, bleeding profusely. I couldn't be sure if he was dead though.
While normally I would simply aim to wound as many opponents as possible, rendering them unable to fight first, and just finishing them off later, this case was different. Going for an instant kill was the best option. After all, they had an easy way to escape. The body of the first guy I managed to hit was already gone, probably teleported out of this reality.
If they were to be pulled out with only minor injuries, they would just get healed. And all of my efforts would go to waste. But I doubt they could resurrect the dead ones.
I ducked under the barricade again, and not wasting any time, prepared another handful of shards, immediately throwing them at one of the shooters.
However, the same strategy didn't work twice. This time, everyone raised their shields. As a result, I haven't managed to kill anyone.
The situation got quite annoying. We arrived at a standstill. They couldn't hurt me… But I couldn't do anything to them either.
I needed to mix things up a bit. Use a different tactic every time, so they would never expect what's coming next.
Thankfully, I had a lot of ideas that I could test.
I took a quick glance, confirming their current positioning.
Two down, eight more to go.
