Chapter 1

I'm here in my bedroom, looking out the window, slowly closing my eyes as I hear the chirping of the birds and the soft wind hitting my face. I look down to see a small busy town, with bustling streets and a lot of honking cars. It's a busy day and it's time for school.

"Silva honey! Come here and eat your breakfast you're gonna be late!" that's my mom screaming at 7 in the morning just to eat my breakfast.

"Coming!" I replied to her. I quickly changed into my skinny jeans, oversized white turtle neck, and simple white sneakers.

I went downstairs and ate breakfast with my mother. "So Sil how's that new song you've been writing? I thought you got offered to write songs by a production company?" My mom said in excitement and awe.

"I rejected the company mom. I just write songs for fun" I said to her in an awkward tone. My mom just nods in response. After eating breakfast and washing the dishes, I was ready to go to school.

"Sil, every day we leave together at the same time and you know that I can always drop you off at school, right?"

"It's fine mom I'll just take my bike as always". I smiled at her knowing she was worried for me. Her visibly worried motherly expression was written all over her face.

"Honey take care, okay?"

"Yes mom" I kissed my mom on her cheeks and wave her goodbye. Ah finally I'm alone, I grab my backpack and stuffed it in a small basket in front of my bike, and pedaled.

I ride my bike, slowly humming as I push the pedals, and feel the breeze in my hair. I thought about ordering some food at the cafe where my friend worked at. I was always a regular there since the atmosphere and food were heartwarming. The first sip of hot morning coffee always hits the spot and their cinnamon roll buns always had a generous amount of sugar icing.

I parked my bike and walk my way towards the cafe. My greasy and messed up hair was surely a ticket to teasing for Kian. "I'll have my usual Kian" I sighed as I made the request.

"Why so glum-faced today missy?" he chuckled as he gets my order ready. Kian is the typical tall, pretty eyes, fluffy-haired brunette boy every girl wants in this town. We used to be rivals as children since we tend to fight over the simplest things but now we're practically an inseparable duo.

"Here's your order miss Grinch face". I chuckled at him and took out my hot cup of coffee. It was a rather cold morning so I decided to go to that place. Labeling it as "that place" since I'm not that creative with names as a child. I rode my bike and made my way to that place.

I know my mom thinks I'm gonna take my classes but classes don't start till 12 noon so I'll stay there for a while. I used to call that place the pony area since I once spotted a funny-looking rock that turned out to be a pony-looking rock. Yeah, I wasn't good at naming things back then as a child. I chuckled to myself.

I finally arrived.

I quickly got off the bike and slowly walked my bike on foot towards my treehouse. I climbed the rickety old ladder and lay on the squeaking wooden boards. I took out my cinnamon roll buns and coffee to enjoy. It took me about a year to construct this treehouse of mine. I used to be envious of the neighbors treehouse so I started designing my own using little sticks and leaves. I finally mustered up the courage to make one and started building one myself by using nails and leftover wooden boards from my dad's garage.

I'm surprised it held up well after ten years despite the sloppy hammering of the nails and badly shaped planks.

I was listening to music and enjoying my food when all of a sudden I heard a rustle in the bushes. The bushes kept shaking until a black cat appeared out of it. It was weak so I rushed my way toward the kitty.

I pet the cat for a while and gave him a bit of the leftover fish that I have in my bag "You also have it rough huh?" I gave him some water and started packing my things. My mom wouldn't let me keep a cat. No way. I glanced at him before I turned around and walked away.

I heard little footsteps behind me.

"Hey little guy" I said as I caressed his face. "Wanna come with me?" I asked the cat. It was weird but I felt like the cat understood me and hopped into my basket "Well I guess your mine now"

What should I call him? I pause and think for a few moments. I blurted out "Midnight?" he looks at me and meows. I guess he likes that name.

I finally made my way to school and midnight comfortably slept in my basket.
