Chapter 1Chapter 1

Amber's POV:

Ahh!

That's the first word that came outta my mouth when I opened my eyes. My whole body was sore, and my head was pounding like nobody's business. Clearly, I had one too many drinks last night, not that that's anything new for this girl.

Anyway, as I'm trying to get my bearings, I realize real quick that something ain't right. This sure as hell wasn't my crappy little apartment. Nope, instead of my usual leaky ceiling, I'm staring up at some fancy schmancy design that screams "rich people live here."

So now I'm hella confused, trying to figure out where the heck I am. Did I go home with some baller last night or what? Not that I'd ever do something like that, but a girl can dream, right? Especially if he's loaded enough for us to "talk things through," if you know what I mean.

As I'm looking around, I spot this huge-ass closet filled with clothes that seem way too big and colorful for my petite self. We're talking bright pinks, greens, you name it – the kind of stuff a spoiled 16 or 17-year-old would rock.

Just then, some voice calls out "Missy, breakfast is ready!" Missy? Who the hell is Missy? Are they talking to me or the person who actually lives here? Cause last I checked, my name was still Amber, thank you very much.

Shaking my head, I head to the ensuite bathroom, which is straight-up bigger than my whole damn bedroom back home. But as soon as I catch a glimpse of myself in the mirror, I nearly lose it.

The face staring back at me? Not mine. This girl is Chinese, with acne-covered cheeks and a body that's, well, let's just say it ain't the slim, toned one I've been working on my whole life. Living in the hood, you gotta stay fit, you know?

Now I'm low-key panicking because none of this makes any sense. How the hell did I end up with a whole new face and body that definitely doesn't belong to an African-American queen like myself?

Just as I'm spiraling, seriously confused as all get out, my head starts pounding even harder. That's when these random-ass memories start flooding in, memories that sure as shit don't belong to me.

They're memories of some Chinese girl named Song Yanyan who's 17 years old. And from what I can tell, this poor girl's life is just straight-up depressing. She gets bullied at school for her weight and her acne, to the point where her grades dropped from A's to F's and she got moved to the remedial class. As if that wasn't bad enough, she even gets bullied at home by her own little sister! Her momma doesn't seem to care much either, and her dad is always away on business trips. I wouldn't be surprised if that dude had a whole other family on the side – I've seen that kind of mess way too many times back in Chicago.

What really gets me though, is that despite all the crap she's dealt with, this Yanyan chick is actually mad talented. She can dance, sing, paint – the whole nine yards. But a few years back when she started packing on some pounds, she quit dancing altogether. Wanna know why? Because her bitch of a sister flat-out told her that "fatties like her" would never make it as top dancers.

Are you kidding me with that body-shaming nonsense? That pisses me off so much. Just because Yanyan has some curves doesn't mean she can't slay on the dance floor or make it big in the entertainment world. That little brat sister of hers needs to have several seats.

"Okay Amber, you need to get your shit together now," I mutter to myself, shaking my head. This situation is just getting wilder by the minute!

So get this - before my drunken night of bar-hopping, my girl Chloe sent me a link to this crazy Chinese web novel. And wouldn't you know it, the whole body-swap mess I'm dealing with happened to put me in the shoes of some tragic side character named Song Yanyan.

"I just became cannon fodder in a novel I just read," I say out loud, still trying to wrap my mind around this insanity. According to the story, this poor Yanyan chick was supposed to get all jealous and evil when her little sister made it big in the entertainment industry - the same dreams Yanyan had to give up on because of her weight gain.

In the novel, Yanyan turned into this unhinged villain who tried sabotaging her sister at every turn until she ended up dying alone and miserable after a poison attempt went wrong. Talk about a dark, messed up storyline!

But oh no, sis, not on my watch! "Sorry author, but the script will have to change now. Amber Lockhart has just taken over. I will have to change this cannon fodder to a protagonist," I declare, feeling that familiar sense of confidence and determination welling up inside me.

There's no way in hell I'm letting this fictional tragedy play out. Amber Lockhart is no one's tragic backstory or villain origin tale. I've dealt with way too much real-life drama and hardship to get pushed around by some make-believe storyline cooked up by an author.

It's time to take control and rewrite Yanyan's whole narrative from the inside out. If I have to shake things up, buck whatever's "supposed" to happen, and turn this entire novel on its head, then you'd better believe that's exactly what I'm going to do.

Yanyan's story is about to get one hell of a renaissance, an extreme makeover by one Amber Lockhart. I'm talking a total 180 from victim to victor, from insecure recluse to confident queen. This girl is about to defy all the body-shamers, hug her talents tighter than ever, and shine so bright her little sister will be nothing but a distant light in the background.

With me taking the reins, Yanyan is going from lowly cannon fodder to a certified main character bad-ass. She's gonna go from a forgotten name to a household name recognized across this fictional universe. Just you wait and see!

So get ready, world of this ridiculous web novel, because a storm is brewing. Amber Lockhart is taking charge as the new lead, and she's rewriting all the rules as she goes. Yanyan's journey is about to be epically re-defined in a way the author never could have imagined.

I crack my knuckles and smirk. "Let's get to work, shall we?"

[Sweet, satisfying, pampering, lots of face slapping.] Zhang Caishen's era had come to an end and he could never rise again, or so they said. But why did he seem to be getting richer and more powerful even if he was now crippled and abandoned by his betrothed? Why was he suddenly so unnaturally lucky? The answer was simple; his new wife!! Lin Alix was not lucky when it came to her family. She was the older, less loved and less talented one in comparison to her younger sister who stole everything from her. But fate intervened and she got lucky when it came to a husband, not only was he wealthy but he loved to spoil her. Suggested by her infinite luck gaming system, Alix married her sister's unwanted crippled husband to be and stepped on the path of a winner in life. She swept up music awards, gained international recognition and got her revenge on her cruel family while becoming Beijing's most envious wife. "Are you crazy, you willingly married a crippled man?" her friends asked. "Yes, but have you seen how much he pampers me?" she asked in turn. "She will cheat on him, he is a cripple and he can't perform his husbandly duties." others gossiped. Alix looked at the so called crippled man who climbed into her bed night after night and laughed. Sorry, he was more than capable. "Honey, I am here to perform my husbandly duties." he would always say coquettishly when he flipped her over. When powerless, unfavoured Princess Soleia was arranged to marry the newly titled Duke Orion Elsher, she assumed they would find love eventually. Who knew that her father would send off her husband mere hours later to fight a war? Soleia was left alone to deal with an impoverished fief, a crumbling estate, and spiteful, vindictive relatives of the Duke who all wished to see her gone. She couldn’t leave― there was nowhere else to go. Soleia desperately wanted her husband to return so he could offer her a helping hand. However, when he did, he returned with Elowyn, a woman he claimed was his true love. A woman hellbent on taking her place as the rightful Duchess, no matter what she had to do to get Soleia out of the way. Mistreated, misunderstood, and miserable, Soleia was eventually thrown out of the estate she helped build. Fortunately, when one door closes, another one opens. Unknown to Soleia, a man more powerful than her husband had been watching her, waiting for the right time to snatch her into his gilded cage. Duke Elsher had been foolish to let go― but the crown prince of Raxuvia wouldn’t make the same mistake. *** [Excerpt] After two long years, Soleia's husband had finally returned home. But he was not alone. “Your Grace,” Soleia said, trying her best to maintain a calm tone, “welcome home. How were your travels?” The man remained silent as he stared at her. “Oh,” the woman that Soleia's husband had brought back said. “I was just wondering where the servants were. No one has come to greet you since your return. Could you please help us bring―” Orion tugged the woman back, protectively holding her in his embrace. His eyebrows furrowed as he glared at Soleia, his sudden action causing the woman to look confused at him. “Orion?” she asked, her hands on his chest to steady herself. “What’s the matter?” “That’s not a servant." In one swift motion, he threw the sword out at Soleia, only to be stopped by a flash of scarlet and the coppery scent of blood. *** Prequel to Stolen by the Rebel King.

Mated To The Cruel Prince

[Matured Content] Saving an injured Fae in the forest had not been Islinda's plan, and worse, he turns out to be royalty, Prince Valerie of the summer court, heir and crown prince to the throne of Astaria. But then, humans were wary of those otherworldly creatures while the Fae looked down on the humans, thinking of them as lesser creatures. Islinda and the prince were worlds apart but that didn't stop them from falling in love.  Unfortunately, Prince Valerie couldn't stay in the human realm forever and had to return to his kingdom with a promise to come back for her. And she believed him.  But then, the other one comes instead.  Dark, broody, ruthless yet dangerously handsome, everyone feared Prince Aldric. Even as a fierce warrior and son to the king of Astaria, Aldric is denied his right to the throne and cursed never to take his place because of his dark heritage.  Twisted from the inside and starved of affection, Prince Aldric does what he is best at, causing misery. He captured  Islinda - the woman who has drawn his brother's attention. He stole her from her home for his cruel purpose. If he couldn't have the throne, he could at least play around with his brother's love interest. His new prize.  Islinda hated him. Loathed him for taking away everything that she could have had with the summer prince. He's the villain. Now she has been dragged into the middle of the dirty politics played in the courts of Astaria, not to mention surviving the cold games played by the prince.  But all hope wasn't lost because the cruel prince could tempt her all he wants but he was never going to get the one thing he wants the most. To be loved. He would never have her heart!  Or could he?  ________ "What can you offer me, little human," He grinned, slow and cruel. She would make such a wonderful plaything.  "Please," She begged him, tears now gathering in her eyes, "Just let me go."  "Fine," He shrugged as if it was an easy request, "You can go."  "W-what?" She croaked, finding it hard to believe.  "Little human, you would find out my mind changes very easily." Those words sounded merciful yet she could sense the threat beneath.  But did he really mean?  Islinda didn't sit around to find out as she broke into a sprint. If there was even the slightest chance of him changing his mind, then she would take it. She would not give up hope yet.  She didn't know why but Islinda spared a look over her shoulder after a while and the blood drained from her face at what she saw coming.  Oh no, she just made a terrible mistake.  This was never freedom.  It was a hunt.  And she just became the prey.  _________ Note: This is a dark fantasy book and the male lead is a villain, so don't expect fluffy romance. What to expect? Death, gore, thick sexual tension, and explicit scenes. Also, it is not reverse harem. Gift magic castle = 5 bonus chapters! Come, let us have a wild hunt!
