Sad Truth

After they had finished buying the ring, Remo and Abby walked out of the jewelry shop.

"I have to attend a meeting with my brother, after that I will visit my dad and tell him about our marriage. I don't know when I will be back though so don't wait for me. "

Abby nodded, "A-alright. I-I don't want to go back to the mansion. It's too big and I feel lonely. Also, I don't really have clothes there. Martha, one of the maids, had lent me some of her clothes."

Remo looked at her dress and furrowed his brows. How did he forget to get her clothes?

"I'm so sorry, I didn't know—"

Abby chuckled, "It's okay Remo, these are girls stuff I'm sure it had slipped your mind."

Remo nodded, "Yeah I will take you shopping next time okay?"

Abby's eyes widened and she shook her head, "N-no need for that Remo. I-I—"

"Or I should order some for you if you're uncomfortable going shopping. I thought all girls like shopping."

He said rubbing the nape of his neck, clearly he didn't know much about what women liked.

"Y-yeah I like shopping. Our company deals with fashion brands too so I have lots of clothes—-"

"But it's probably at your father's house. I don't think your uncle allowed you to wear those."

Abby looked at her feet, "Y-yeah they gave most of them to their daughter. We are at the same age."

Remo shuffled her hair, "Don't worry I will buy you more expensive and beautiful clothes once we move to our new home."

Abby looked up at him and her lips curled up in a smile. How was she supposed not to fall in love with him when he treated her so well?

She doesn't remember the last time someone had been this good to her.

"A-Alright."

Remo nodded. His phone chimed, distracting him, and he removed it from his pocket.

Pressing the button to turn on the screen his brows furrowed as he stared at the message.

"I have to go Abby, I'm running late. I will drop you off first and text Tony to meet us at your place. Since your uncle might be looking for you we can't take risks."

"Okay."

Remo and Abby walked towards Remo's car, with Abby holding the ring box delicately in her hand. The sun was setting, casting a warm, golden hue over the city.

As they got into the car, Abby couldn't help but steal glances at the beautiful ring nestled on her finger.

Abby's heart raced at the thought of telling her father about their marriage plans. She had always been close to her father, and the idea of his approval meant a lot to her.

Remo, on the other hand, was focused on his phone, typing away a message to someone, probably Tony. The tension in his face was evident as he tried to coordinate their plans and ensure Abby's safety.

After a relatively quiet ride, they arrived at Abby's temporary residence. It was a cozy apartment that felt much more like home to her than the grand mansion she had left behind. She turned to Remo, her eyes filled with gratitude and affection.

"Thank you, Remo, for everything," Abby said softly. "I'll be okay here. Please, be careful at your meeting, and don't worry about me."

Remo smiled warmly at her, his eyes reflecting his deep affection. "I'll be back as soon as I can, Abby. And remember, we're in this together now."

Silence enveloped them as his eyes stayed focused on hers and he inched his face closer, stopping only until there's a few centimeters between theirs lips. With a gentle touch, he brushed her hair behind her ear.

A faint blush crept on her cheeks as butterflies swarm inside her.

Why did she think he was going to kiss her?

Silly Abby.

"O-okay."

As they parted, Abby watched him drive away, feeling a mixture of emotions—excitement, longing and a hint of apprehension about what the future held.

But one thing was certain; she had found someone who cared for her deeply, and that made all the difference.

"Aww I'm sure Boss will be back soon. Whip off that sad face."

Abby heard the voice and turned to find Tony standing behind her.

"I-I—it's not like that." She defended.

Tony chuckled, "Sure sure kiddo. You look like a puppy in love and anyone with eyes can see it but if you say so."

Abby stiffened at his words.

Love?

Did she love Remo? B-but they just met and—no no she just admired him that's it.

He was a good person and she was grateful to him that's all.

She could never fall in love with him knowing his heart already belonged to another.

Her best friend.

But she's dead—maybe—

Abby shook her head to get rid of the ridiculous voice in her head.

So what if she fall in love with him? He would never love her and she would be breaking her own heart.

Sad but it was the harsh truth.
