Evan's annoying ego

Evan looked up. Mr. Martin was looking directly at him with a cold gaze. Evan got up from his desk and walked over. "Sir?" Evan asked nervously. "What's this I hear about you challenging Coach Haynes to a fight?" Mr. Martin asked sternly. "Well, he took off 1 point on one of my assignments and now my average is an 89 instead of a 90," Evan replied.

Mr. Martin stood up from his desk and walked over to Evan. "You do realize that Coach Haynes is one of the more powerful teachers in the school, right?" Mr. Martin asked Evan, raising an eyebrow. "How could that be, he doesn't have any powers," Evan said, now thoroughly confused.

"Coach Haynes may not have powers, but he is exceptionally strong, and his mastery of martial arts is unparalleled by anyone else in this school." "Even stronger than me and you know can't beat me."

"You're bluffing," Evan said. "Try me," Mr. Martin said with a smirk.

Evan suddenly drew his sword and slashed at Mr. Martin's head. Mr. Martin caught the blade with two fingers and threw it away. Evan then went for a kick aimed at Mr. Martin's stomach. Mr. Martin grabbed Evan's foot and twisted, spinning Evan around in midair. Evan hit the ground but immediately used his hands to jump up.

He called Excalibur to him and slashed at Mr. Martin's feet. Mr. Martin jumped to avoid the attack. "Got you!" Evan swung his sword at Mr. Martin, who was still in midair. Before the sword could hit him, Mr. Martin drew a symbol in the air.

The symbol immediately formed a shield upon its completion. The moment Evan's sword connected with the shield he was blasted back into the adjacent wall.

With a boom, Evan crashed into the wall. He stuck there for several seconds and then fell to the ground leaving an Evan-shaped imprint in the solid concrete wall. Mr. Martin shook his head, turned to Benjamin, and said, "Help him practice so that he doesn't embarrass himself in front of all of the students and staff."

"Yes sir," Benjamin said with a smile growing on his face. Mr. Martin nodded at him and walked over to the door to greet the students coming into his classroom.

Benjamin turned towards Evan and saw that his face was red with embarrassment. Lennox stooped down and helped Evan to his feet. "That won't happen when I fight Coach Haynes, you'll see," he spat at Mr. Martin. He got back to his desk and slumped in it, showing his frustration and anger.

"Yo, you good Evan?" Lennox asked, snickering. Evan looked over at him and said, "That was bull, my fight against Coach Haynes won't go like that." "Sure," Corey said, beginning to snicker as well.

Evan flipped Corey off and took out his notebook.

Evan began to furiously flip through it until he reached the page that they had taken notes on yesterday. Suddenly the door shut. "Ok class," Mr. Martin said, clapping his hands.

Mr. Martin directed them towards the board which had several runic symbols on it. "Who can tell me what this mean?" Mr. Martin asked.

The class went by pretty quickly as no one was paying attention to the lesson. The moment that the bell rang everyone leapt out of the classroom. "Well, the good thing that comes from your fight is that we get to go to all lunches," Isaiah said, stroking his chin. "You're welcome for that," Evan said irritably.

He smacked Isaiah on the back of the head. Benjamin shook his head as they arrived at the gym and went inside.

They bid Jackie goodbye and went to the locker room. While they were changing, Isaiah turned to Evan. "So, Evan," Isaiah said, looking serious. "We are going to help you train for your battle against Coach Haynes," Evan replied with a simple OK. "We will only be fighting using hand-to-hand combat," Isaiah explained.

"Coach Haynes is a god of hand-to-hand combat, and he can easily catch your sword." Isaiah stopped and stroked his chin. "I think that it would be better for me to train with my sword," Evan said, pulling on his gym shorts. "It's easily one of my greatest assets in battle. After all, I'm not very good at hand-to-hand combat." "You're right," Isaiah concluded.

Isaiah finished putting on his gym clothes. "I've already booked the gym for today with Coach C," Velena told them as they walked out of the locker room. "Great," Isaiah said, grinning. "Then let's get started, shall we?" Isaiah said. "I'll fight Benjamin, Lennox, and Miles first," Evan said, pointing at them.

The three of them walked out onto the gym floor.

Before Evan went to his side of the gym Miles touched him on the shoulder to gain his powers. Once Evan reached his side of the gym, he pulled out Excalibur and held it in front of him. With one fluid motion, he pointed it at Benjamin, Lennox, and Miles. Benjamin drew his sword, broken war, while Lennox cracked his knuckles. Miles drew a dark pink copy of Excalibur and pointed at Evan.

"Miles first," Evan yelled across the Gym. Benjamin and Lennox walked off to the side while Miles readied himself.

Without warning Evan attacked, slashing at Miles with Excalibur. Miles deflected the hit but had no idea that Evan would strike again. Miles dropped to the ground to avoid being hit.

In retaliation, Miles plunged his sword upwards just barely missing Evan, who rolled in midair to dodge it. Evan stopped time while he was still in midair. Before it could take effect, however, Miles stopped time as well.

Time around the boys stopped completely, leaving them as the only people who could move. Before Evan could grasp what was going on. Miles kicked him in the stomach, knocking him back. Miles tried to rush Evan while he was recovering from the kick. Miles unleashed a flurry of sword slashes that Evan expertly blocked.

Evan then did a flip, using the motion to kick Miles in the jaw. Miles flipped backward in the air. Evan swiftly moved forward and slashed at Miles. Miles blocked the blow with his sword.

The blow, however, was so ferocious that Miles was sent flying back. Before Miles could hit the ground. Evan plunged his sword into the ground.

A massive energy sword fell from the sky and hit Miles, blasting him back. Miles smashed into a wall. Time suddenly unfroze and Miles fell out of the wall and hit the ground. "Next!" Evan yelled. Lennox stepped onto the gym floor.

Lennox cracked his neck. When Evan assumed his stance. Lennox assumed his stance as well. Evan then rushed to slash Lennox with his sword.
