Classes and Decisions

Sunlight shone into the room of Team RRWBY as Rex had woken up earlier. He grunted at how he just woke up randomly and tried to go back to sleep. He couldn't see what time it was since there was no clock in the room so he thought it would be a good time to go and take a shower as so he wouldn't be late. He still hated that he was at a school but he didn't know where he was so he didn't have a choice in the matter. Going off on his own into an unknown world would just cause problems for him.

He grabbed his clothes and went to the door but as he walked out the door, he tripped on a box just laying on the floor and hit the floor. He grunted in pain and said "who puts a box by a door. Honestly" as he turned around and grabbed the box.

He then saw that the package also has a note on it and a list of supplies on top of it with his name on it. Rex took the note and read it out loud, as the note reads.

"Dear, Rex Salazar,

This package you see right here in front of your designated dorm room number, contains all the supplies you will need to attend classes here at Beacon Academy.

I have some questions to ask you but I am stuck with paperwork and you do need an education. So when you are needed, find me and meet me at my office, it is located in the large middle tower called Beacon Tower, where you will access the elevator to my office.

I'm hoping that you will have a fun time here and I hope to see more of your abilities in action. Have a nice day, young man.

P.S. Make sure to take your scroll out in order to unlock your door to your dorms. The doors are secured with an electronic lock, which can only be disengaged by scrolls so you won't lock yourself out as you must keep your scroll on you at all times.

Rex then turned to the now closed door and jiggled the handle, which didn't move, confirming what he said was true.

"Son of a biscuit" he thought as he sat back in the ground and then ripped open the package and saw all the retirements he needed to attend Beacon.

First, the thing he took out from the box was the Beacon Academy Male School Uniform. The uniform itself consisted of a black suit lined with gold, accompanied by a blue vest and a white shirt with a red tie. Plus, it also comes with black dress shoes in his size, and black dress socks.

Rex read the rules that students are allowed to customize their attire. Rex then remembered that the only things he wore on his person was the clothes on his back.

"Those are the only clothes I have. I'm going to have to see what other clothes this world has. See if they have anything that matches my awesomeness" as he smirked in cockiness.

Next, he took out a small device that appears to be white a cylindrical object with a yellow, diamond-shaped button in its center. He then pushed the button as the object transformed into a translucent, touch-sensitive panel between two solid end grips.

"Woah" was all he thought. Rex guessed this was a scroll, since it looked like a small high-tech tablet.

"If only my phone could be that small" as he then thought of an idea and reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out his phone.

He then touched the Wi-Fi icon as he opened up to connect to the Wi-Fi network of this school. He began to type the password "b3acon#" that was written on the note, now he was connected to the internet. It worked but then he remembered that he needed the scroll to open the door. He then looked between his phone and the scroll and then tried to open the door with his phone but nothing seemed to work.

He sighed as he then did the same thing with the scroll as he then held the small tablet over the lock as the red light turned green, signaling the door is unlocked and turned the handle to open the door. He took the package with him as he stepped forward into the room.

Rex smiled as he then set the package on his bed, and continued to take all the necessary supplies he needs and got all the school supplies he needs for each class.

3rd period- History of the world of Remnant with Professor Dr. Bartholomew Oobleck: 10:59 A.M - 11:49 A.M.

4th period- Combat Class with Professor Glynda Goodwitch: 11:55 A.M - 1:22 P.M.

Rex just groaned as he saw what this new schedule was going to be like for him. He never went to school and he wanted to keep it that way.

The only time he ever went to school was when Breach trapped him in her own world and when he had to go to school to win that stupid ping pong tournament. He never liked school but he knew he had no choice. With no money or a place to sleep at, staying here was his best choice at surviving. Not to mention this place had a library so he could at least get some info on this world and maybe then he could get a better understanding of his surroundings.

But he knew this wasn't a normal school. This school was all about learning how to become Huntsmen to defend the the World of Remnant from the Creatures of Grimm.

He hoped that once he gets used to this school, he could still do some hero work even though this is not his world to protect.

Rex then set his schedule and everything else down except his new school clothes. He then walked towards the door and left to walk down the hall. He then stopped abruptly as he began patting his pockets, realizing he was missing something. He ran back to his door and tried to turn the handle but it wouldn't budge. Rex slammed his head softly on the door as he said "Son of a biscuit." He had forgotten his scroll. Already off to a good start on the first day of his new school life.

Later

Rex had gotten out of the shower and had changed into his new clothes and just began tugging away at it, emphasizing how much he hated it.

"Man. Even though my time at Noah's school was short it was still better than this. I could wear normal clothes. Man, does this suit itch" as he complained all the way to his room. Rex stopped at the door but remembers he didn't have his key,card, thing as turned the face the door and hoped that the girls were now awake. He knocked on the door and waited for a response.

Nothing.

He did it again.

Nothing.

But as he went for the third knock, the door opened slightly, revealing to be Yang, slightly giggling.

Before he could do anything, Yang grabbed his arm and yanked him inside, very cartoonishly. Rex then looked around to see Blake sitting on a chair, fixing her hair, while he saw Ruby giggling while holding a whistle. Rex raised his eye at her holding it but then he looked over and saw that Weiss was still sound asleep.

Rex then got the understanding at the sisters snickering with Ruby holding a whistle. He stood next to Yang as he too began to snicker at what was about to happen. Ruby then walked over to Weiss's bed and the blew the whistle as loud as she could, which woke Weiss up and made her fall out of bed.

"Good morning team RRWBY" said Ruby as she rolled her r's.

"Ouch. What was that for" screamed Weiss as she got up but then heard loud laughing as she turned to see Rex and Yang laughing their heads off at Weiss's dilemma. Weiss just groaned in annoyance as brushed herself off.

"Now that you're awake we can begin our first order of business" said Ruby.

"Huh. What business" questioned Rex.

"Decorating" said Yang as she was holding supplies.

"And we still need to unpack" said Blake holding a suitcase as clothes fell out. "And clean."

"Alright. Blake, Yang, Weiss, Rex and their fearless leader Ruby have begun their first mission" shouted Ruby. Rex then saw all the girls grab their stuff and began decorating the room.

While they did that, Rex just grabbed the stuff he laid on jabbed and read over it again.

"Well 6th period is math so hopefully that will be fun. Then there.

"Remnant studies 3 period so that's going to be helpful" as he began to think more on  into his school uniform. And as he got his new clothes, he also got his own scroll. But he didn't know how it worked so that was going to be a pain in the butt to figure out. When he came back the girls were done decorating.

And the result after being done was a cluster. "This isn't going to work" said Weiss, seeing the mess they made.

"Oh, ya think" snarked Rex causing Weiss to glare at his comment.

"It does seem to be cramped." said Yang.

"Maybe we should ditch some of our stuff." said Blake

"Or we should ditch the beds" said Ruby and gasped as she said "and replace them with bunk beds."

Everyone agreed expect for Weiss and they began working on their rooms. Rex checked the time on his scroll and saw that it was a few minutes till the next class, so he decided he'd go on ahead and get to his first class. Words he thought he would never hear again, and yet here he was. He grabbed his stuff and left for class as the girls did their magic.

He made it out to the grounds of the Academy and figured he should be quick so he doesn't get in trouble and cause more problems for him.

Rex donned his goggles and then began to form his rider

And Rex then put his rider into high gear and drove to the class room. Ozpin and Glynda watched as he drove by. "That boy is truly a strange one, wouldn't you say" said Glynda to Ozpin.

"Yes I do. But I also believe that he's truly remarkable. Those powers of his are something I've never seen before. I believe he will make a great warrior as well as a a hero."

"Still wish we knew who he was or where he came from" said Glynda as Ozpin just hummed "uh huh" as he sipped his coffee.

Timeskip

Rex had and it to class and he opened the door to an amphitheater type room. He saw that there were other students there.

"Ah welcome to class young man" boomed a voice, which made Rex jump in surprise. He turned to the voice and saw an old man, who he supposed was their teacher, cause of the way he dressed.

The man wore a double-breasted burgundy suit with gold piping and buttons. The pants he wears are tucked into olive boots, similar in appearance and construction to cavalry boots. He has gray hair, a gray mustache and appears to be slightly overweight. This was Professor Peter Port, the teacher of Grimm Studies.

"Uh yes. Hello there" said Rex awkwardly.

"I see you came alone. Where is your other teammates. Its...oh... 8:59 and 55 seconds. 56.57.58.59.60. And...."

Suddenly the doors came busting open and the remaining members of RRWBY and JNPR came tumbling into the room

"We're not late!" Yang cried in happiness.

"By one second, Ms. Xiao Long. Next time please try to be here sooner. Like your teammate here. He arrived sooner than you people. Perhaps you should lead by his example" said Port as Rex looked down at his teammates and just shrugged his shoulders.

"We are sorry, Professor Port. We'd just woke up late and-" Weiss tried to say but was cut off by the professor.

"It doesn't matter why you were almost late. The point is that you're all here now on your first day of class. So, please take your seats." Port instructed waving towards the front row. As soon as Team RRWBY and JNPR took their seats, their first class had begun.

"Monsters, Deeeemons... Prowlers of the night! Yes, the creatures of Grimm have many names, but I merely refer to them as prey! Ha-ha!" Port said with no one paying attention to him except for Blake and Yang, Weiss who was taking notes, Ruby who has her head propped in her hand as she takes a quick nap until she is woken back up by Port's bad joke, which receives a cricket-filled silence as a result. And Rex was trying his best not to laugh at the joke.

"Uhhhh... And you shall to a pint graduating this prestigious academy! Now, as I was saying: Vale, as well as the other three kingdoms, are safe havens in an otherwise treacherous world! Our planet is absolutely teaming with creatures that would love nothing more that you tear you to pieces! Huntsman! Huntresses..." Port said as he stopped to wink without opening his brown eyes at Yang who groaned uncomfortably.

"Individuals who have sworn to protect those who cannot protect themselves From what, you ask? Why the very world!" The professor said dramatically with one random male student raising his fist screaming "Ayyyy-yep!" in the background, causing everyone to look at him strangely as he sat back down embarrassed.

"That is what you are trying to become. First a story, I tell the young handsome man... ME! When I was a boy..." Port said as he trailed off into his story.

"If he is what counts as handsome I hate to see what counts as ugly." Rex said whispering into Yang's ear getting a snicker in response.

Rex just toned out the rest of the story only hearing something about smelling cabbages and the professor's own grandfather.

Rex was starting to get bored of this class already. He hadn't been this bored since the last providence debriefing. Rex just groaned as he was bored at the man's constant talk about him, him, him. Rex then pulled out his schedule and took at look at the time schedule of the classes.

"Well at least its short" he thought as then pulled out his scroll. He opened it up as he tried to figure out how it worked, being new and everything to him. He saw that it had a phone icon on it so he knew what that one would do. He also saw it had some folders on it with names of his classes on them

"Guess they're for me later today. I guess....."

"Mr. SALAZAR" boomed about voice, which made Rex fall back in his chair in surprise. He got back up in a hurry and ended up flinging his scroll down the steps, making clacking noises at it hit them. This made the teacher look down and raise his eyebrows (but not open his eyes) as he turned to Rex, who was sweating nervously as he then said,

"Are my class really that boring that you'd rather play on your scroll" he said a bothered manner.

'Yes' thought Rex but said "No" in actuality.

The teacher stroked his mustache in ponder as he said "Ok then, what was it I said a little bit ago" he said, acting serious.

Rex just stuttered nervously as he didn't know what it was. He decided to just wing it and say what he had heard him say before

"Umm, talking about your past with Grimm" as he shrugged his shoulders. Silence filled the room as it was then broken by the teacher saying "You are correct but if you're going to be a huntsman, then I suggest you take these classes seriously" scolded the teacher.

Rex sighed as he said "Yes, sir" and he then slumped in his chair and laid his head on his desk in embarrassment. Yang just patted his back as she said "I get bored with this class too"

The teacher continued on about his life and Rex still was bored with it. He honesty just wanted fly out the window but he knew he needed more information about the new world he was in. So far, he got what he learned from his first encounter with Grimm.

They're mean, aggressive, and turn into dust when you kill them. While all that was helpful, it didn't help that the teacher was annoying as sin.

As the man kept talking, Rex looked over and saw Ruby, drawing Port which showed a ball-with-limbs-and-a-head drawing of the teacher with stink lines coming from him and "Professor Poop" written underneath. They laughed along with Blake and Yang at the little red riding hood's creation as she blew a quick raspberry while Weiss had an annoyed expression on her face.

"Ah-heh-hem! In the end, the Beowolf was no match for mysheertenacity, and I returned to my village with the beast in captivity and my head held high, celebrated as a hero!" Professor Port said with a bow while Weiss was slowly getitng more frustrated at Ruby's antics.

"The moral of the story? A true huntsman must be honorable! A true huntsman must be dependable! A true Huntsman must b be strategic well educated and wise! So, who among you believe themselves to be the embodiment of these traits?" Professor Port asked his class.

Rex was beginning to drift off to sleep until he heard Weiss yelled, which woke him up, saying "I do sir."

"Well then let's find out. Step forward and face your opponent as he pointed to a cage with something growling at it.

"Well. Can't wait to see how this'll turn out" thought Rex.

Weiss faced the cage with her Rapier in her hand. Rex then heard the girl cheering her on so he thought about cheering her too. "Go Ice Queen. Freeze that things sorry butt."

"Quit calling me that. I'm trying to focus" yelled Weiss as the man said. "Let's begin" and chopped off the lock and out popped what looked like, in Rex's eyes, a boar but in the same color scheme and design as big bird yesterday.

"They all seem to have similar color patterns in them. Black, white, red, and yellow in their eyes. So then where exactly did they come from" thought Rex as he saw Weiss struggling to fight the boar but flipped it up and stabbed its stomach. Then she glared at Ruby and stormed out. He then saw Ruby follow her. Rex decided to follow them.

"Weiss!" Ruby called out in worry as her partner turned around to face her.

"What?" She snapped sounding like she was struggling not to cry.

"What's wrong with you? Why are you being-?" Ruby asked but was cut off.

"What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you? You're supposed to be a leader and all you've been so far is a nuisance!" Weiss shouted.

Ruby on her part just looked really confused of why she is yelling at her.

"What did I do?" Ruby asked as she scoffed.

"That's just it - you've done nothing to earn your position! Back in the forest, you acted like a child, and you've only continue to do so!" Weiss argued.

"Weiss, where is this coming from? What happened to all the talk about, 'working together'? I thought you believed in acting as a team." Ruby asked.

"Not a team led by you. I've studied and trained. And quite frankly, I deserve better. Ozpin made a mistake." Weiss finished walking off to the shock of her teammates.

"Hmm. Now that didn't seem to go very well." Ozpin said scaring everyone.

"Whoa! We're did you come from?" Blake asked.

"Man, that's creepy' thought Rex. He saw that Ruby had a look of depression on her face as she looked at Ozpin and said.

"Is she right? Did you make a mistake?" Ruby asked the headmaster, sounding sad making her look like a kicked puppy as she was on the verge of tears.

"That remains to be seen." the headmaster replied as he laughed slightly.

"What do you mean?" Ruby ask confusedly.

"I mean, it's only been one day Ruby... I've made more mistakes than any man, woman, and child on this planet. But at this moment, I would not consider your appointment to leader to be one of them." The Beacon headmaster exaggerated as he leaned in closely to look more directly at his most intriguing student.

"Do you?" Ozpin asked.

"To be honest, I don't know you that well, Red, but you know one thing being a team leader isn't something you just carry on the battlefield you always have to be on guard in case someone were to try and hurt you your teammates or someone you care for." Rex added remembering what Six told him.

"Yes, as Mr. Salazar stated, Being a team leader isn't just a title you carry into battle, but a badge you wear constantly. If you're not always performing at your absolute best, then what reason do you give others to follow you?" Ozpin finished as he walked away.

"Maybe he's right. Maybe I am not cut out to be leader." Ruby said Looking dejected as she was almost about to cry with a few tears building up and now streaking down her cheek as she let her emotions out.

Until she felt a hand on her shoulder as she turned to see Rex with his hand on her shoulder, trying to comfort her.

"Well now being a leader isn't about is the strongest were smartest is about what's in here." Rex putting his hand on his heart.

"Yes there are times you're going to mess up, but we're only human we all make mistakes but its our choice if we get back up and try again." Rex finished walking towards their next class.

Ruby couldn't help but feel better after Rex's and Ozpin's speech. She then began to walk towards Weiss.

Beacon Academy Rooftops

"Professor Port!" Weiss exclaimed approaching the Grimm Studies professor.

"Ah, Miss Schnee what do I owe this fine pleasure?" Professor Port asked.

"I... I enjoyed your lecture!" The SDC heiress replied nervously.

"Of course you did, child; you have the blood of a true Huntress in you." Peter said arrogantly.

"You really think so?" Weiss asked as she smiled hopefully.

"Most surely!" Professor Port said as her began to notice the deterred look on her face.

"Hmm, is there something troubling you" he asked.

"Yes" answered Weiss.

"Dear, girl. Confess to me your strife" he said in a cheerful way.

"Well... I-I think I should have been the leader of Team RWBY!." Weiss responded.

The aging professor just stared at her before saying,

"That's preposterous." He replied bluntly.

"Excuse me?!" She asked angrily.

"I've believed in Professor Ozpin for many years, and the man's never once led me astray!" Professor Port stated to the SDC heiress.

"So you would just blindly accept his decision even after seeing how exceptional I am?" Weiss asked confusedly.

"With all due respect, your exceptional skill on the battlefield is matched only by your poor attitude." The Grimm Studies Professor responded

"How dare you!" She raised her voice sounded offended.

"You just proved my point. I see a girl before me who's spent her entire life getting exactly what she wanted."

"That is not even remotely true." Weiss responded crossing her arms.

"Well... not entirely true." She added.

"So the outcome didn't fall in your favor. Do you really believe that acting in such a manner  would cause those in power to reconsider their decision. So instead of fretting about what you don't have, savor what you do. Hone your skills, perfect every technique, and be not the best leader, but the best person you can be." Professor Port finished walking away, leaving Weiss to think about her thoughts, while Ruby just watched from a distance and walked away from her.

She then began to head towards second period.

Timeskip

It was night time and the team had fallen asleep but Rex had already done that when he got back to the room.

"Man was this day exhausting" he thought.

After 1st period they went to an art class for 2nd period with a teacher named Professor Lisa Verde. She was a nice teacher and very helpful. It was an improvement over Port's class. Their first assignment was to make a sculpture out of clay blocks. Everyone did their own thing but Rex decided to have some and use his BFS and made a sculptor of him with his smack hands.

This made everyone surprised at his talents while Ruby just squealed in amazement.

Third period was the history of Remnant with a professor named Oobleck and first impressions of the man was..... he was crazy. He kept speaking way too fast and he had trouble keeping up but this was the class Rex really wanted to get to. He knew that if he wanted get the feel of his surroundings, this was the class to get that info. What he did learn was about how there was a war between Faunus and humans and how it still continues to this day. Rex was shocked by the news and began to think back to his days during the years he worked at providence. People didn't like him because he was what was plaguing their world.

"Guess that's one thing this and mine have in common" he thought.

Next was combat class and he easily did well in that class. When Glynda selected him to fight an opponent, Rex easily mopped the floor with him, but maybe a bit too good as when he left, he got a bump on the head from Glynda, telling him not to be so rough when fighting others. Rex just nodded and walked and groaned in annoyance at her.

Lunch was next and Rex was glad to see they had meatloaf and mashed potatoes here. If he couldn't get it for every Friday, he was just going to leave.

Next was Dust manipulation and Rex learned was that there was no nuclear radiation here since the technology here on Remnant was fueled by Dust, to which he also learned that it was used in weapons. So that explained Weiss's sword a bit. But he also learned about how everything, from ammunition for weapons, fuel for vehicles, home appliances, and communication technology were all dependant on dust as a power source. While it was helpful to understand it, let's just say, not knowing how dust works proved to be a very bad thing. Since Rex didn't know what dust was, it made things more complicated for him to try and understand how they work. And not knowing how they worked, well............

Let's just say, they were going to have to find a new classroom until the teachers could get the fire under control and fix the room. Rex just hid himself in his coat in embarrassment at his predicament.

6th was mathematics and lucky for Rex, it was trigonometry. Something he easily understood so that class wasn't a problem.

7th was chemistry and considering what happened with dust, Rex was given a partner to help him as so they didn't want to have to deal with another class incident.

The rest was for them to do what ever they wanted to do so Rex had decided to go to their library, yea you heard me library, to see about getting more info on the place. Then it came to supper time and after eating his heart out,(no joke here), he went back to the room and collapsed on his bed.

When it came closer to the actual curfew time, everyone went to sleep. Except for Weiss as she walked in and snuck over to Ruby's bed and carefully tried not to step on Rex as he was still sleeping on the floor. "We need to find him a bed" thought Weiss. She moved the blanket and saw Ruby sleeping with papers and books on her bed. She then poked ruby on the shoulder and Ruby woke up rambling"Sorry Weiss. I was studying and I fell asleep and...and" but Weiss shushed her saying "how do you like your coffee."

"Cream and 5 sugars."

"Here you go"offered Weiss.

She then looked back at Ruby and said "Ruby. I think you have what it takes to be a leader. And I'll try and be the best teammate that you could ever have. Good luck studying" as Weiss jumped down. As she carefully stepped over Rex, heading to the door and said "Ruby. I always wanted bunk beds as a kid" as she closed the door.

Rex smirked as he had heard the whole conversation. "It's only the first day and I know that those two will be good friends in the future" thought Rex as he went back to sleep.
