After the tumultuous encounter at the ruins, Cordelia felt a wave of relief wash over her as they made their way back to camp. The sun was beginning to set, casting a golden hue across the sky, and she took a moment to appreciate the beauty around her.
Once they reached the camp, Cordelia sought out her mother, Sally. She found her sitting at their usual spot by the shore, watching the waves roll in.
"Mom," Cordelia called, approaching with a sense of urgency. "I need to talk to you."
Sally turned, her eyes lighting up. "Cordelia! How is your quest going?"
"It's been intense," Cordelia replied, recounting the highlights—the battles, the clues, and the young demigods they'd rescued. "But I feel like we're getting closer to finding the weapons. I just wanted to check in and make sure you're okay."
Sally nodded, concern etched on her face. "I worry about you, sweetheart. But I know you're strong. Just remember that you're not alone; you have your friends and your family behind you."
Cordelia felt a warmth spread through her at her mother's words. "Thanks, Mom. That means a lot."
After their conversation, Cordelia and Annabeth headed over to where the younger demigods were settling in. They found them gathered near the campfire, sharing stories and laughter, a welcome sight after all the chaos.
"How's everyone doing?" Annabeth asked, kneeling down to speak with a few of the kids.
"They're settling in well," Cordelia added, observing their interactions. "It looks like they're starting to feel at home."
One of the younger demigods, a girl with curly hair and bright blue eyes, smiled up at them. "It's great here! We even got to go swimming in the lake!"
"Just remember to stay close to the camp boundaries," Annabeth cautioned gently. "There are still dangers out there."
As they continued talking with the kids, Cordelia turned to Annabeth. "What do you think about all of this? About bringing them here?"
Annabeth sighed, glancing at the children. "It's a lot of responsibility. I know they've been through a lot, and we have to make sure they're safe. But they're also a reminder of why we fight. They deserve a chance at a normal life."
"I just hope they can adapt," Cordelia said, her brow furrowed. "Sometimes I worry about how my mom feels about all of this. She has so much on her plate already."
Annabeth placed a reassuring hand on Cordelia's shoulder. "Your mom cares deeply, and she'll do everything she can to protect them. Just like you."
Later that evening, Cordelia found Luke sitting by the fire, gazing into the flames. She joined him, the warmth of the fire enveloping them.
"Hey," she said softly. "Penny for your thoughts?"
Luke chuckled, glancing her way. "Just thinking about everything that's happened. It feels like a lot to take in."
"Yeah, it really does. I can't shake the feeling that we're being watched, that something bigger is coming," Cordelia confessed.
"I know what you mean. But we'll face it together, right?" Luke replied, a hint of determination in his voice.
"Right," Cordelia agreed, feeling a swell of confidence.
As they talked, Annabeth joined them, her expression thoughtful. "We need to prepare. If we're going to find the remaining weapons, we have to be ready for anything."
"Agreed," Cordelia said, glancing at the younger demigods nearby. "And we need to make sure they're protected too."
With their resolve solidified, the trio began to strategize for their next move, determined to confront whatever challenges lay ahead. Together, they would not only safeguard their future but also ensure that the new generation of demigods would have a fighting chance in a world filled with uncertainty.
