As the light coming through the creak at the door dimmed Old Du took out a cigar he had been holding onto for a decade and lit it while his gaze drifted into nothingness.
He appreciated Chen so much and after getting along for so long he had accepted him as part of his family. It seemed a little weird for him to consider someone as family despite knowing them for a short time but in the Republic, people were here today and gone the next. This meant one should treasure those around them because tomorrow isn't promised to anyone.
"I thought you lost your memory," he said before taking a long drag of the cigar. The red glow flickered in the darkness before he puffed out a string of smoke.
Yi Chen stood there his back straight as he stared at the houses with dim lights shining through the small windows and replied, "I still don't remember much but I am certain that he is my wife."
Old Du smiled and said, "Don't you mean husband?"
