Chapter 39

Safety first, Beaumont.

But the situation wasn’t, in any straightforward way, his business. He stepped out of the covered doorway, leaving Nate, Glenn, and Rita to their conversation. He wouldn’t step in unless it looked like someone was going to get hurt. In case that happened, though, he sized up Glenn.

Shit. That is one big dude!

Rusty wasn’t small, but he had nowhere near Glenn’s height or weight. Still, training counted for a lot, and Rusty hoped he could deal—if he had to. But he hoped even harder he wouldn’t have to test that theory.

Glenn had one arm over everybody’s heads, big hand against the wall, leaning on it. Nate went to walk beneath it and out toward Rusty, but Glenn once again grabbed him by the bicep with his free hand and pulled him back. “Hol’ on, there, Nate. It’s you I came ta see!”

Oh fuck,Rusty thought, worried.
